What mileage are you getting?

My LS400 gets noticeably worse fuel economy than my S600. It’s very odd, especially considering it weighs over half a ton less and has less than half the power.

I had a first the other week. We recently bought a boat and it was at 1/4 tank when we bought it, first time we filled it up I hit the gas station limit of $100 at around $2.50 a gallon before it was even filled. Our boat has a 70 gallon tank, yes 70 gallons. That was the first time I’ve ever hit the station limit, I never even did that on my dad’s diesel pickup

kind of related, but a fun story:
I daily drove my father’s OBS f250 in college for a short bit. In the middle of downtown Nashville there is only one diesel pump at a rather sketchy gas station. It is very old; no credit card swipe, you pulled the handle from the side of the pump and flipped the bottom of it up, the counter rolled over versus a digital screen - I think you get the picture. Well it ended up costing so much that when I went inside to pay, my credit card was declined. Turned out Cap1 thought it was fraud because no one spends that much at a gas station. I left my card with the clerk and went to the bank for cash. The lady was EXTREMELY surprised when I returned for my card with money in my hand.

Haha. No way a large vehicle could possibly have a large fuel tank. Both tanks were empty I’m assuming?

You will become numb to it eventually. Besides with all the luxury and amenities it is totally worth it.

I have a 37 gallon tank in my 21' inboard, and where the boat only sits in the water, I can’t go to the regular gas station, so it’s marina prices for me. I try not to look at the dollar side of the pump, only the gallons.

yup! And I spent the last remaining gallons trying to find somewhere that I could actually get fuel at

4spd? 4spd. I eeked 26mpg out of my SC400 once. Which weighs less and is more aerodynamic.

Ouch, yea we mostly trailer our boat, so I at least can usually avoid marina prices

It hurts less because your wallet is getting thinner, so that in-balance when sitting that caused the pain is going away.

I can relate. Our boat has a 50 gallon tank, and we keep it wet in a slip from March to October. Filling it up at Marina prices can be eye watering.

I’d have expected better than that. I guess they are fairly heavy though.

You can fill up when the tank gets to 3/4. This way you’ll be filling in smaller increments totaling less money per fillup.

Downside is that you won’t be able to pass a single gas station.

Yup. About 5500 lbs if I recall correctly. Combine that with a 4-speed transmission, 4x4, and the aerodynamic properties of a warehouse, and there you go.

The five speed make a big difference on economy. Lower first gear, etc. I have 33" on my 2004 and a mild lift, and I still get 16 on my commute.

That’s quite surprising, since it also has 4 fewer cylinders. Must be all in the tranny.

It must be. Also, I never normally bring the S past 3K tpm, it has so much torque so low down that I never really need to get on it. I actually need to use the throttle in the LS when I’m merging and stuff though.
