Kinja'd!!!

Someone posted a game like this the other day. I forget who but credit goes to them!

$500 dollar Ford Explorer with “possible head gasket” problems. What say you Oppo? Worth the risk to flip and make a little money or no?

I am of the opinion SUVs, even this one, are popular enough it might be worth the risk. I however, have no idea how one fixes a head gasket.

I’m voting a tentative flip based on the body, interior and drive train being in reasonably good shape. Apart from the head gasket. Even if the engine is completely toast you should be able to source a replacement fairly cheaply.

Even if you pull some parts and scrap the rest you could turn a profit.

Burn, take a sec and search your local Craigslist for explorers under 2k. There are a ton of them spanning 3 generations. Let’s say you get it for $400 and you replace the engine and fix whatever else, because there always will be, $1000. That leaves you $1400 in a 1st gen, while other bigger gens are selling for the same. To turn a ok profit you need to sell it for $1700. It’s possible but would be very hard too.

I think so too. And I imagine you could find an engine to do a swap fairly easy This engine was a work horse for Ford for most of the early 90's I believe.

Good point. The market is currently pretty bad on the first gen Explorer

Burn. Just check CL to see how many of them there are and no one’s looking for a “nice” first gen explorer.

The only flip this car is good for is the one that happens after a blowout.

I don’t know about no one. I would personally enjoy a first-gen Limited quite a lot...but I have never had any luck on the rare occasion the desire for one flares up.

It would probably be good if you were keeping it, but I don’t think there is enough left to flip it.

Burn it. ones with less serious issues are dirt cheap. I bought a 95 XLT 4wd for $300 with only a radiator, broken drivers seat and door handles needed. Its been a great garbage hauler and disposable off-roader.
