Kinja'd!!!

NA 1.6 5-Speed with 199,000 miles and 26 years of receipts. Listed yesterday evening on craigslist at price low enough that could offset significant maladies.

It drives but it definitely needs a clutch. It goes through the gears fine but if you stomp on it, the RPM’s fly... but you certainly don’t. It also has a very slow oil leak and needs brakes but it was really hard to pass up at the price she wanted. The woman who owned it bought it new in 1991 and nearly cried handing over the keys. Now the fun starts - starting with upgrading the clutch and flywheel.

Other little things: It’s a bit musty because the drain plugs are clogged. The rear plastic window on the top has a slight tear. Some corrosion on the window trim. A couple little bumps here and there from parking lots. Tickle me pleased.

Nice purchase. I did the same thing two years ago. Best automotive decision to date.

Thanks. So many possibilities :) Build the 1.6? J swap? Then.... exocet?!

Hey, we’re cool people...even if the ND forum is convinced their pre-2017 transmissions will explode if someone so much as sneezes in the car.

Are you going to go the PDR route to take out the fender dent or are you just going to stick with mechanical fixes for now?

J swap exocet... That would be beautiful! I currently have a J engine sitting in storage, Still not 100% sure if I want to swap it or go turbo!

They sound like poop but go like stink. It’s potentially cheaper with better reliability than turbo! On the exocet, you have to cut a hole in the (minimal) bodywork to get it to fit.

Mechanical for now. There’s a good chance at this point that I toss the body and turn it into an Exocet.

How bad is the body? And where are you located? If it is clean rust wise I know some people looking for a decent shell after you take the Exocet parts off.

Pretty clean. One of the doors has a pretty good dent in it but I think it could be popped out. The other is in the picture. There are 2 scuffs (both bumpers). As far as 25+ year old Miatas go, it’s top 10th percentile. I’m going to do a deep dive on it this weekend to see if there are any major trouble areas. The price was low enough and the woman selling it was shakey enough that I wanted to close it out quickly before she changed her mind so I didn’t pull up any carpet or anything. I’m in the California Bay Area and it’s been here all it’s life so I don’t expect much rust.
