Kinja'd!!!

The Fusion Sport is a pretty great deal, and anyone who thinks this car isn’t fast enough or enough of a racecar is probably a bit of a knob.

Eh, it’s alright. I think it’s a dynamite highway cruiser since it’s an alredy solid Fusion but with a small jet engine instead of a typical engine in the front. But it isn’t too special either and the 2.0 Ecoboost had a good amount of oomph as is. ALso my local dealership ahs already knocked 4,000$ off the price to get it to the low 31k mark instead of the 35k sticker.

7/10, would get a used Flex Ecoboost instead.

I’d say the same about the MKZ with the TTV6, too. Even MOAR horsepowers at a reasonable price compared to the competition

Counterpoint: it is not offered with a manual, 3500lb+ curb weight, and reportedly numb steering do not sound like enough of a racecar.

They are also not cheap at $35-$40k, although I’m sure you can get a killer deal on them. You could get an STi for the same (or less) and enjoy a real racecar family sedan (I’m still waiting on an update to the old as dirt EJ, maybe 2019 will be the year).

There a lot of cars that are actually pretty good deals out there. Whatever replaces (or I should say say coexists) with the Tacoma down the road will be a regular old car of some sort.

STi competes more with the Focus RS than the Fusion Sport. The Sport is really more of a family car that happens to have a bit of power, rather than a sports sedan.

But it’s not an STi competitor. It’s a family sedan with more go. And it’s much less of a cop magnet.

You called it a racecar. It does not belong on a track. You might as well go full beige and forget the extra power and awd. Embrace the commuter car hell that this thing is meant for.

Every time someone buys one of these new or talks about how fast/sporty they are; we, the enthusiasts, lose just a little more ground to the appliance worshipers.

At least it isn’t an F150.

... what? Bud, it’s not a war. And people enjoy all types of cars. Maybe this could be someone’s gateway car, or their compromise car for their enthusiastic side. Not everyone can have an STi or a Miata as their only car, or can justify buying those.

The 2018 just got a facelift. If Subaru is following their previous pattern it should get a full update in 2021.

There are rumors of a performance hybrid power train though. So it may be a completely different animal than what were expecting. People may end up begging for the “old” EJ back. Haha

2019 might be early, they released an all new Impreza and usually the WRX and STi follow a year or two later. However, they’ve dropped the Impreza name from the WRX and STi so who knows.

I was surprised when they kept the old engine for 2015, which put me in a BRZ instead of an STi.

Lol. Given a choice, I’d rather have an option to get a manual in everything.

But that’s not reality anymore, so I’m choosing to accept it. :)

If I’m paying that much money for a family car, I want it to shift itself. I got an automatic loaner, and while I didn’t like the car, I enjoyed the not shifting in traffic part.

I was able to find a whole page worth of Fusion Sports in my area for under $30k.

STi’s in my area are far less numerous and start almost $10k above that. ~$26k is WRX Money. You are kidding yourself if you think you can get a new STi for that.

One of my colleagues has one of these. It’s ok. It’s a quicker Fusion. He likes it, but doesn’t love it.

And that’s the rub. At the lower trim levels, the Fusion is a great value. It looks great, has decent powertrain options and is priced fairly.

This is more expensive but not more better.

Yep. Maybe it went “too racecar” for the general public but the old mazdaspeed 6 saw a complete upgrade and was a better way to do this. While being called a “sport”, this fusion is just a really expensive way to get 300ish horsepower......which the 2.0 could achieve with a tune and some minor mods if you really wanted it.

Not a bad car, but at that price point....I feel like it’s for someone who would’ve bought a SHO but can’t quite afford it. Because the FOcus RS and Mustang GT will kick the fusion to the curb, but they’re a compact hatchback and a sport coupe respectively. THe FUsion buyers want a nice sedan for carrying people and things.....but the sport is just so expensive initially that it gets uncomfortably close to a SHO.

I agree with you. I have seen some good deals on them in the sub 30k category and they have a lot of power and all wheel drive for the money with all of the perks of a regular family sedan

The Fusion Sport in Canada comes in at $41,538 CAD, fully loaded with pretty much no options. The Taurus SHO comes in at $51,098, but you can pay more for some options. So I wouldn’t exactly call $10k close.

“I feel like it’s for someone who would’ve bought a SHO but can’t quite afford it” = There is a big enough price gap that the customers don’t perfectly overlap.

But then again, the discounts on SHOs are crazy too. There’s a brand new one for 35k in my area . In the US, the fusion sport starts at 35k. So that’s probably why the aforementioned discounts hit in.

I think that’s the word for the sport - it’s priced like it’s a complete package, but really it’s just the big motor for the fusion. Everything you like about a fusion, only with 325 horsepower.

The problem is that is isn’t as fast as the as the numbers had everyone expecting. On paper it’s up 55-80 hp plus AWD over competing V6 family sedans and only outpacing them by a half a second to 60 and not much more in the quarter. Yes, it is “fast enough” and a “great deal” for the prices they go for. But it’s still a disappointment. I think most people who are saying it isn’t fast enough (myself included) don’t really mean that it isn’t a good performer or that if we owned it we’d always be wishing it was faster, but rather that it should do better given the advertised power. The reason it’s really come to a head is that Ford is developing a habit of this. First, the FoST, which is also not a slow car, does not feel any more powerful than the GTI that it is up 30+ hp on. Then the EcoBoost Mustang came around with an advertised 310 hp, that is hardly faster than the 275 hp Genesis Copue 2.0T. Again, the Boostang is a great car and a great value, but if it really is making 310 hp at the crank then it is losing a lot more of them before the road than other cars making similar power. We’re not really saying Fords aren’t fast enough, we’re saying Ford should cool it with the horsepower claims and drop like 20-30 hp from their EcoBoost advertised numbers across the board, because the performance just isn’t matching what you’d expect for those numbers based on the competition.

Seems like a reasonable option for somebody looking for a fast Ford sedan but doesn’t want anything as big as a SHO. (Honestly, the SHO is pretty tight inside anyways for as big as it is...)

I think it could be possible, but do you want to pay a 10K+ premium for a manual in cars where it really doesn’t belong? And then have it be unsellable when it comes time to part ways?

I guess I am to the age and frustration level with local traffic that I am over it. I drive a heavy sedan in traffic jams and road trips.

Oh, I’m exaggerating when I say “every car” (no one wants a 3 pedal S class) but I’d like to see cars with sporting pretenses to offer both auto and stick. The latter seems to be disappearing even in sports cars, which stinks.

Stock isn’t for everyone, nor every situation - but I do want my next DD to be a stick. I’d pay a premium, albeit not 10k.

Can’t get 300 hp from the fusion 2.0 without a bigger turbo. Not nearly the same power or torque as the ecoboost 2.7 modded.

I like them. I am currently in a rental FWD 2.0 Ecoboost Fusion (which reminds me I should do a review) and I would pick the Fusion before many other mid-size family sedans right now, especially the Sport. The tech is great, the ride is good, they are quite and can pull on the highway. They are a great family car.

I already have a NB if I want to have fun, and this would be a great second car to do road trips in, do groceries, go skiing, biking... life in general.

Plus, there are now a ton of tunes for this motor (for the F-150). Most even come with a warranty. Some make as much as 60 over stock! That’s nearly 400hp at the crank! For 40K CAD, that’s a lot of car.
