Anyone want to help do this to the 4-wheel world?

Video below is about a motorcycle company who has done what I have always thought of doing to cars if the government wouldn’t get in the way. Hope this isn’t some repost but I figured it was interesting and worth a share:

You’ve always wanted to make poorly built, unreliable Chinese sourced cars that look like poorly built hot rods that will compete directly against used Hondas?

Well if that is what that company is really doing...no

That’s what it looks like theyre doing. It looks cheap as hell. You can only say “looks like a $10-18,000 dollar bike” so often. The gas tank is a stylistic afterthought and the 6'2 guy looked like he was riding a mini bike.

Yea this is just my non-existent knowledge of motorcycles shining through apparently. I took if for face value( doh!) The concept of a striped down back to basics, just a bit more power than needed seemed like a nice approach.

The shame of it is it’s a cool bike concept, but this bro.... ugh.

“This isn’t a bike to show off that you’re riding n expensive bike. *continues to compare it to expensive bikes*”

I don’t know much about them either, but it definitely looks like something is missing. Which is fine if you don’t care, but then he tries to sell as something that’ll satisfy people who really do care about appearances.

As far as the car equivalent, no margins and low sales since it’d be like a well built Mirage. The used car market wouldnt give it a chance.

Yea definitely not someone I would choose to have a beer with!

Concept is cool, too bad execution seems to be done poorly from what other comments are saying.

That bike has he same riding position as the Wicked Witch’s bicycle in the Wizard of Oz.

Yea I had already thought about the used car market being a huge competitor but I truly believe that the mentality of the world today could make it viable just because it was something “new” versus “used”

Yeah, in some ways Cleveland Cycle Werks had awful timing...the notion of a cheap 250 with some style is great, but now that the Cb300f, Rebel 300, VStrom 250, G310GS and many others have all come to the US, they just look like an also-ran.

RideApart also did another video comparing three small urban motorcycles...one was a CCW and the brake caliper literally fell off near the beginning of the ride. If I had to choose between one of those and a ten year old Ninja 250...not a difficult decision.

I still have yet to follow the yellow brick road so I don’t quite follow, but I will gladly take your word for it!

well there you go folks! an execution nightmare...such a shame as the idea seemed well and good.

I will have to check out that other video. Usually don’t pay much attention to the motorcycle world as I refuse to even dip my little toe in, but you know how youtube is with its suggestions!

It’s a nice thought, but Cleveland is a known purveyor of terrible Chinese bikes.

There are many good budget friendly bikes out there at low displacements, this is not one.

So basically he’s making new old motorcycles for people who want to look like they have something cool but for not a lot of money and probably a little bit better reliability than the old motorcycle.

Or in other words, you want to make a car company that makes a new version of say, the Iroc Z Camaro that looks cool (perspectively), still struggles to make 200hp, but is less expensive than either buying a brand new Camaro or buying an old Iroc Z and restoring it.

I mean it might work with motorcycles because theres a pretty universal design language, basket frame, engine in the middle, seats vary, handlebars can swap easy, thats pretty much it.

Cars on the other hand are so variable, and much, much more expensive.

You have just figured it out! Lets find old tooling for awesome old cars that use to have v8's that made ~200hp and just use todays econobox 4 cyl engines that put out the ~200hp!

Now how to get by those pesky safety standards...

It’s kind of an object lesson about economies of scale. The CCW costs $3k and is...a little iffy. A Honda CB300f costs $4k and is an excellent little bike.

Lol. Sell them in pieces and call it a kit car

We could have a sub-division that can “build the kit for you” for a small additional fee!...also calls assembly

here’s a tip: if they make it a point to tell you how they’re “American Designed” you know they’re made in China or India.

So.... they built bobbers from small new bikes? All I got out of it was how cool you’ll look riding it.
