Wasn’t my fault, i was sitting at a light and a lady wasn’t paying attention and took her foot off the brakes and coasted into my rear bumper. I was pretty angry about it because it’s something so stupid and minor that doesn’t need to happen. Just pay attention. Anyways, since the damage is so minor i’m not sure if i am going to go through the insurance company.

I have a $500 deductible and i honestly think it’ll cost less than that to fix. If it does cost less than that is that for the insurance company to decide and they get her insurance company to pay them back for the damages? Should i get a quote from a body shop before calling my insurance company? This is my first accident so excuse my ignorance on the subject. I called the police and they made a report and i have the ladies information. Took them forever to show up, was standing outside my car for almost an hour.

Usually if the anticipated cost is less than $3-5k (deductible plus anticipated increase in premium), I wouldn’t even consider claiming it. But since you decided to call the cops, eh, you might have to.

You shouldn’t have any deductible, her policy should be covering your damages.

Feel free to post a photo, I can give a ballpark figure (15 yrs in body shops).

Bit of a crappy picture but here it is. Like i said, very minor. It was basically her license plate that dug into the corner where the most damage is. The imprint of her license plate is also in my bumper, very light but it’s there. Car is a 2016 GTI.

Pricing depends on market labor rates, estimating software, insurance company writing guidelines etc, but I’d expect a $500-700 repair bill. Overhaul, repair and refinish of the rear cover.

Her insurance should cover, and you shouldn’t take any hit to your rates. Unless she asked for an estimate with an offer to pay out of pocket, but in no way should you be footing the bill.

Claims adjuster here. You don’t even have to go through your own insurance. You have the right to file through hers since she’s the liable party. No need to open a claim on your policy when just the claim being opened can possibly affect your premiums on renewal. You just call her company and give them all her policy info so they can look it up. If you’re lucky she already called them and they’re just waiting to get your info to figure out how much they owe you in damages
