That you can get the B8 S5 with the 4.2 V8 and manual.

If only this one hadn’t have been in a bad accident.

Could have had. They replaced it with the supercharged 3.0 V6 in 2012. But I guess that doesn’t matter if you’re buying used. I’d prefer the S4 Avant because I’m boring and practical.

The S4 Avant is also incredibly hard to get with a manual with under like 100,000 miles. If I can find one, it would be anything short of a miracle haha.

Just don’t forget to service your timing chain. Not even occasionally.

Yep, I’m very experienced with these cars. If I were to get one, lots of stuff would be done.

What’s so bad about the chains? Other than th being located between the engine and the trans?

The tensioners/guides are the main problem. Not the chain itself. When they go bad, other shit goes bad.

Now, Doug Demuro made a big deal over timing chain issues. When they aren’t actually all that common.

And this is what the timing chain looks like. Fun, right?

Yeah it does. Yeah I’ve heard about the tensioners. I have an 09 s8, so similar architecture. I’m on the 5k oil change interval plan. Hopefully that will keep the guides happy and help me to avoid that photo above. Approaching 55k here soon, so I’m pulling the intake when I do the plugs so I can carbon clean. Also have a leaking oil filter housing o-ring to address while it’s out.

Awesome! I’ve always wanted one of those.

Somebody near me owns a murdered out black one, that V10 sounds amazing.

Yeah I was wanting one for a while also, they finally depreciated enough to afford and I was looking to upsize from my S4 to haul around my sons. I’d love to do a milltek exhaust, but tough to justify the cost. Great car though.

Plenty of mercedes benz and audi have that issue where I live. interesting that its mostly the high priced cars eh? (from what my car parts friend says the accidents arent from someone else hitting them, its these owners paying $50,000+ for a car but they don’t know how to drive)

I guess money can’t always buy you smarts.

I’ve had it for 3.5 years and 10,000ish miles. In that time it has needed a few repairs. Valve cover gaskets (which I think is pretty standard for any car at the same miles), two power steering lines needed replacement, and a engine oil leak that required removing the intake manifold to access. I haven’t had any problems with the timing chain (yet lol). I think it’s definitely something to take seriously considering how expensive the repair is. But I feel like people on the internet have made a bigger deal about it than it is. So overall it hasn’t been a super cheap car to run, but it isn’t depreciating so big picture wise the cost isn’t bad.
