Well, I had it yesterday, but today I get to enjoy non-contact lens corrected vision in almost 17 years! So far so good (tested 20/15 vision today) and it’ll just get better as my eyes heal. Going to an A’s game later to try out this newfound eagle vision.

I had it done in Late March! I was also wearing corrective lenses for 17 years. My only regret is not doing it sooner.

How bad were your eyes before?

It’s something I’ve thought about doing.

Congrats! I just got an eye exam today, and my pupils finally aren’t dilated anymore.

Prescription was -4.5 in one eye, -5.0 in the other. Don’t think there was anything else wrong with them (no astigmatism or anything).

I wish I could be put to sleep for the operation. Eye-work just terrifies me, as nice as it would be to ditch the glasses

I am/was totally not squeamish about it, but I will say that is was uncomfortable but short. About 30 seconds per eye of actual discomfort and then another 30 seconds of staring at a light. All told probably 5 minutes in the chair.

I found the whole thing fascinating, but I can understand people being freaked out by it as well.

Wow..so you were pretty damn blind. Back to 20/15, eh?

Yeah definitely quite blind! And yea, even today my vision feels 100% but it’ll supposedly just keep improving as my eyes heal.

Have always wanted to do this. But the combo of $ and... well, $ has kept me even from getting an evaluation. I have wildly different prescriptions for each eye, which I keep telling myself will disqualify me.

I’d say if you’re curious, get an eval. Most places should do them for free. And I’m no expert but I can’t imagine wildly different prescriptions in each eye would matter, they mostly want to see stability in the prescription and then various things like thickness of the lens.

Money definitely was pricey (I paid $4800 and that seems to be somewhere in the middle, but that covered everything-multiple pre op and post op visits). I think it was worth every penny though

How much out of pocket did you have to pay? I want to get it, but I’m afraid it will cost a lot

I paid $4800 for everything. It being an elective operation, insurance doesn’t really cover anything. I think they had financing options as well but I had the funds so I threw it all down at once.

Jealous! One of my eyes is too bad for it but I’d be so happy to never need contacts again.

Congrats! I got it done in January and next day was 20/20, 1 month check up 20/15, and my 3 month check up I could read 3 out of 5 on the 20/10 line. Definitely recommend using lubricanting drops for a while even if you feel you don’t need them. Enjoy the strange feeling of not putting in contacts and thinking you need to take them out when you’re tired.

Going from the basic human ape vision that is worse than a scorpions to a eagle is always a plus.

Im probably going to do it too since I really dislike the idea of having to tote corrective eye crap around for the rest of my life (this is supposed to be the 21st century!! the future!!).

I’ve worn glasses since the first grade and currently sit (and have been for easily 5 years) right around -6.75 in both eyes. I really want to have this done but it freaks me the hell out. I honestly have no recollection of what it’s like to see without having glasses on my face (or the very brief time I tried out contacts).

Nice! I had it done over 10 years ago and my vision is still great.

Only issue I’ve had is with larger halos around headlights when driving at night on days when my eyes are fatigued from working at my computer all day. In spite of that, I’d still do it again, no question.
