It's happening-- I'm getting a Supercar!  Ferrari, Porsche Turbo, Lambo, Alfa Romeo made my short list.

Kinja'd!!!

The stars have aligned, prayers have been answered, and I can move from the world of really cool fast great handling sports cars (i.e. Audi S5, ZHP 330 CI M sport, Porsche Boxster, Jag S Type R, 135) into a super car.

It’s going to be an exciting ride my speedy racers.

There are caveats as you’ll see in the video below, the main one being under 100K, AWD or rear/mid engine preferred, etc (as you can see in the video), but what I really look for biggest is something that won’t depreciate too much more, AND is going to have some reliability.

So let me know what you guys think I may have missed. Also if you’re wondering why I excluded some great ones like GTR, Audi R8, etc head over to my video on YouTube (20 points to the 1st person who gets that reverse reference in the comments) for more details why I chose what I did, and why I didn’t chose what I didn’t.

Also as always— comment, star/favorite, and follow DFWs cars if you want to follow along on my adventure or possible misadventure into supercar land.

Buying my 1st SuperCar. Ferrari, Alfa Romeo, Lamborghini, Porsche Turbo, or something else?

I excluded anything too close to what I already owned or spent a ton of time with, i.e. GTR, Jag (although there is a Jag or British car in my future to be sure), Audi R8 4.2, etc.

Isn’t the jury still kind of out on Alfa depreciation?

very much so- I discuss that a bit in the video. Normally that’s where a lease would come in to possibly save me, but the buggers are almost as much to lease as a 60/72 month finance deal. :(

That’s the most unique suggestion I got, Haha. Honestly I haden’t considered that. Sort of going for a small sedan, coupe, convertible, as you may have sensed. ;-) I bet I’d spend 1/2 my lower end budget on that tho, prob 30-40k, and since I’m looking for little depreciation, and good resale later, might not be the best fit. :-P

Ferrari. A 360 should be at the bottom of it’s depreciation curve and they are reliable. I think F430's have a little room before they hit the bottom but are pretty much bulletproof. There are deals to be made on them if you aren’t picky about a gated car. If you want a pure analog car, I would definitely recommend a 348. But I may be biased ;)

haha, you know I didn’t mention that in the video, but that’s a nice car! I’d prob want a C7 Z06 as I’m taking it on lots of twists, tight tracks, etc and those are a bit out of the budget (and looking at what the C6 did w/ depreciation may bite me in the ass there). Unless you know of any good lease deals? :)

So I kept getting interrupted while watching; so, forgive me if I missed some things. First, I completely understand why you and most people consider depreciation heavily when weighing this kind of purchase, but it’s just so foreign to my mind. I just can’t get excited about buying a car when I’m already worrying about what I’ll do when I sell it.

Second, I heard you mention cars that don’t sound like supercars to me in the traditional classification. That made me think of the Corvette, which is supercar in performance even though most people don’t lump it in that category. You can get a convertible and easily keep it under 100K. Again, forgive me if it doesn’t fit your stated conditions. Also, I heard you mention Ferrari, but for my money, you get just as much car in a better looking package from Maserati. The Gran Cabrio is my favorite car of all time.

Anyway, those are my ramblings. Hope to see you driving around in whatever you pick!

Ahh older ones, don’t know if I can warranty them? If I’m spending 60-80k not much room in the budget left for repairs.  Also, although pretty, the 360 just doesn’t do it for me from the looks dept. The 430 is def on the list tho! :) But the dream would be a 458/488 if those ever depreciate. :)

Hey good points! The depreciation thing is after my Audi S5 went from 60k to 20k, in 6 years (not really all that bad spaced out). My Benz I am leasing went from 60k to 40k in one year (thank god it’s a lease!). This car will be stretching my budget, so I can’t afford to eat 50k of depreciation in addition to the payment if that makes sense? Good suggestions— I want it to be an exotic, so not sure if the Corvette qualifies? Classic Corvettes certainly do. The last gen Vipers made the list, but are outside the budget. The Maserati I love love love— but is a bit too GT as I will track / really it a lot (I was so so close to one of them actually even though it’s “only 420 HP”).

Of the cars on your list, 911 turbo all day. Seriously.

of the cars not on your list, Caterham 7. Also seriously.

Depreciation and maintenance are all set. Selling it would be a little more challenging though, but I bet you won’t want to.

Under 100k

Mid engined

Won’t depreciate (may even rise in value)

Very reliable

Competes with Ferrari

So, first gen NSX?

Dont have a chance to watch, but what about an Evora 400(s). I think it’s more of an exotic sports car than a supercar, but it’s mid engine, fast, looks the part, and can be had in your budget with not many miles.

Ahh good call out, and probably reliable too. That was overlooked. Heck I even like the new NSX if they depreciate to well under 100k.

I understand. The Corvette is not exotic to us, no matter how impressive. And, if you want that experience, gotta go foreign. Incidentally, I hear what you said about the GTR. My daughter is following this narcissistic teen aged youtuber who got himself one.

I’m a weirdo. I buy my cars to keep and drive them until they’re worth next to nothing to anyone else.

Wish you could get a Spyker. But then I’d probably have to stalk you, and that wouldn’t end well, so it’s for the best.

If 60-80k is stretching your budget to the point that you’re worried about repair costs, are you sure you should even be looking to spend that much?

Lotus Exige + Audi RS2?

Or an SL600 with the $12+k exhaust to make it sound like a Pagani.

911 is probably the best choice so here’s one that isn’t.

Kinja'd!!!

I mean it’s just like a 911.

6 cylinders

Backseats

Racing heritage

Reliability... HAHA. Oh wait this has Toyota all about its person so Reliability!

Plus it sounds better than a 911. A lot better.

Well I’d be dipping into saving to make repairs, and that’s no fun! I think I’ve been pretty spoiled to the point where I have had some pretty sporty cars w/ next to no upkeep. Small repairs sure I don’t mind, they’re machines, but a major repair on a older Ferrari- yikes.
