Today started off really well. Woke up in a happy mood, it’s lovely and overcast and cold outside, and I am going to see my guy friend tonight then drive down to Long Beach to see my sister graduate college and have some fun. So pretty much an all around nice day. That is until my guy friend told me he is going to move back to Colorado. We have been kinda dating/hanging out and enjoying someone to have without labeling it as a relationship. It has been wonderful, but as with anything intimate for a long time you obviously develope feelings. And now my heart feels like it is being ripped out of my chest. He doesn’t know when he will move and I will still see him tonight. But I just feel like utter crap now.

Is long distance an option if things become more serious? Long distance sucks (speaking from experience), but it can be worth it.

It’s not easy, but my wife and I were long distance for a few months right at the start. Challenging? Yep. Impossible? Nah.

It doesn’t work if one party does not commit.
By commit, I mean make feasible, executable plans to end the long-distance aspect sometime in the near future.
That involves serious career reflection and juggling the locations of your respective families. And luck.

Never say never, though me and my girlfriend never worked out as a relationship we’re still strong friends and are planning on visiting each other in summer, where we’ll probably become a thing again.
It’s not the same but there’s still hope.

Well it isn’t unrequited, but I don’t know how much he cares. We met after having really shitty exs that fucked us both over, so neither of us wanted anything to serious... So I don’t know where this is headed, but we shall see.

I should have phrased that differently. What I meant was this situation sounds even more frustrating than not being able to be with someone because they’re not into it. That’s all :)

It works sometimes. After over 4 years together, my better half and I were long distance (500 miles) for over 2 years. We’re living together again now.

I don’t want to imply that it doesn’t suck. It does suck. Some days I felt like they were choosing a place over being with me. It wasn’t the happiest 2 years. But it did give me a lot of appreciation for my better half. I feel like we’re stronger now, having survived being long distance.

Fuck man, I’ve been exactly there before. It’s a very shitty feeling. Only thing to do is to come forward and explain to him how you feel. There’s a chance it’ll change his mind. I didn’t do that and he left and I’ve been regretting it since.
