You can buy a Chevy Spark with plastic cladding, roof rails, “skid plates”, and big offroader-ish fog lights. It’s called the ACTIV. I don’t remember this being revealed.

Kinja'd!!!

The sad thing is, these damn things will probably sell, and sell, and sell.

On the bright side, you can get a stick.

Who am I kidding there is no bright side. Just buy a regular, actually kinda handsome Spark, people.

I like the fact that they offer the Spark in colours that belong on mini-eggs.

All cars should have the color pallets of tiny econo cars.

Seems kind of dumb. Most people that buy a Spark are trying to get away buying the cheapest new car possible. Not exactly the type to add options, and accessories. Same with the Versa.

They’d be way better off buying a slightly used better car, but they HAVE to have a NEW car.

At the same time, for the seemingly low, low price of $16k you too can look like you live an outdoorsy and active lifestyle. Yes, even you who can’t really afford a new car but are buying one anyway.

We keep getting closer and closer to regular cars with some cladding on them. We’re so close to just getting a bunch of hatchbacks. All that’s left to lose is the cladding.

Well I mean, this hideous thing is actually a Sonic, so it’s not much better.

Picture won’t load, but I meant the Chevy Trax.

I’m okay with AWD, as long as more and more people adopt the twin clutch system Ford and GM are starting to use over Haldex

I’m assuming there’s supposed to be a picture of a Tax here. At least that thing has the “kinda tall” aspect. This is literally cladding on a Spark.

I have no problem with it being AN option, as long as it’s not the ONLY option:

You can get high tech safety systems and decent interior space for under 20 grand. These things are a steal.

Yes, nothing screams “active and outdoorsy” quite like a Spark with some plastic shit glued onto it.

Hey, Subaru has built a whole brand image by gluing some cladding to a legacy wagon.

I mean...if they’d put part-time 4wd instead it’s not much different from a Tercel...

I think I mostly just like that it’s tiny. And since we don’t get the panda cross...

Kinja'd!!! "Dr. Zoidberg - RIP Oppo" (thetomselleck)

But see the Tercel is quite large inside (because it’s made of paper thin Japanese steel). It’s honestly more spacious than my wife’s car.

We’re already there, except for the plastic shit (and, except for the performance car plastic shit, it’s toned down):

Kinja'd!!!

58 inches tall, firmly in hatchback territory. (My Prius is taller by a tenth of an inch, and it’s the generation that Toyota made a big deal about being lower than previous generations. A more direct competitor, the Focus RS, is .4" taller than this thing.) And Mercedes-Benz actually calls that a SUV.

The crossover trend is understandable - no one is going to use them off-road, but that’s not the point. For the average family they:

Are much easier to get in and out of.

Make it much easier to buckle up children and load the car.

Have better visibility since you’re higher up and can see more.

Are also easier to park because of this, plus they’re only car sized.

Even have extra seating and space without becoming a truck or van.

That being said, this Spark with cladding offers none of those features, other than looking terrible. It’s just a rubbish fashion accessory.

It’s just a Mazda2 with a higher driving position. Nothing much is really sacrificed, it just gives it better ergonomics for tall people, families, old people etc. Doesn’t even look half bad either tbh.
