Could be. My Wife’s iPhone 5 power button stopped working once. Apple fixed it for free. Is it the finger-print reading not working? or the button itself?

Button itself.

It shouldn’t be, but it’s entirely possible. Assuming you still have the phone’s original home button, only Apple can replace it. Third party replacements do not and for the time being, will not ever work for Touch ID.

Cleaning it can sometimes improve performance, but that may require taking the phone apart a little to get down deep.

The 6 and 6S models are supposed to have much more robust home button mechanism, so it should no longer be a problem.

Doesn’t mean it’s impossible though.

It hasn’t happened on my 6S, but I couldn’t tell you if it was a thing or not.

I guess that’s not very helpful, is it!

I’d take it into an apple store. Is likely an easy fix, and if they won’t do it I’m sure one of the phone repair mall-kiosks / stores could get it fixed pretty quickly. Cheaper than a new phone. If you still have warranty / applecare it might even just get swapped for a new unit.

From what Oppo is saying, it doesn’t sound like it’s a thing.
