Have some pictures of the first Megane RS I had:

Kinja'd!!!

Yes the tail lights were heavily tinted, I bought it like that, and apparently the TÜV didn’t have a problem with it, so neither did I. The light was still bright by the way.

Kinja'd!!!

I bought this one in September 2013, it was from 2005 and had 67.500 km when I bought it.
The previous owners girlfriend was highly pregnant and their other car was a smart Fortwo, so the Mégane had to move, quickly.

Kinja'd!!!

I never really liked the Megane II designwise, but I found it while browsing the classifieds in my lunch break, it was about 5 km away from my workplace and nicely priced, so I gave it a shot.

Kinja'd!!!

I had just bought my RX-8 a few weeks earlier, So I didn’t really have a need for it, but the price was too good not to buy it, and I could easily flip in once it got french papers.
I bought the car for 6500€. To make it french, I needed a Certificate Of Conformity (200€) and a technical inspection (50€) to get french papers (normally 500€, in that case 200€*). With French papers, it was now worth about 8500€.

*The clerk made an error while doing the papers, and the RS became a DCi, which was 300€ cheaper to registrate. The correction was free, but required a second run to the prefecture.

Kinja'd!!!

The look of it is special. It sure looks better than the standard Mégane, but it still has this odd shape in the back. I was never a fan of this (though it kind of grew on me while I had it), but as long as you drive it, you don’t have to look at it.
The dash is not that nice either, but the aftermarket double din radio helped in making it more appealing, at least to me.

Kinja'd!!!

Before I was able to sell it, I had an accident with the RX-8, and spent a few months in hospital. When I got out, to my mother dismay, I drove the Mégane, since it was easier to get in and out thanks to it’s huge doors.

Kinja'd!!!

In the end, to calm my family down, I put up an ad to sell it, somebody offered me a black 2006 Audi A4 for it, which was worth around 9500€ at the time I think, so I took it. Put up the Audi for sale 2 months later for 9000€, sold it within 3 days.
In hindsight, this was a great buy 10/10 would do again.

The horizontal lights of the Phase 2 make it a bit easier to look at the rear, but the rear of the Megane 2 never was the prettiest thing. The boring colour on your old one doesn’t help though.

I do like the sound of that generation of RS though, or of all Megane RS’s actually, seeing they have the same engine anyway.

“The previous owners girlfriend was highly pregnant and their other car was a smart Fortwo, so the Mégane had to move, quickly.”

Was this couple really bad in mathematics? If they are about to become a family of three (or more), they will sell the car that has more than two seats and keep the one that has only two.

Sounds like they didn’t make a smart move there...

They do, but the black tail lights looked really nice with the silver paint in my opinion, as stated, it kinda grew on me. I’d still take an orange one over silver, or, not a Megane 2.

The sound was awesome, it drove nicely too, I just found the stick to be a bit too far from the driver. I had to reach forward to shift, which is kind of annoying in spirited driving.

They wanted to replace it with a four door with a big boot, which I kind of understand, but I would have just replaced the smart too. At least your back up car is usable then. Also, the Méganes boot isn’t too small and the rear seat even have an isofix system. Maybe he wanted “something sensible”.
But their loss is my (bar)gain. I had the same opportunity when buying the first RX-8, pregnant couples are great for buying sports cars.

That’s why I love the long shifter of the Twingo, it is quite close to the wheel, which is handy for spirited driving.

I’m no fan of dark tinted lights, but it does indeed fit the silver paint.

They were clearly bad at a lot of practical things.

I mean, incubation time is limited. They should have been thinking about this at least 6 months earlier so they weren’t selling it at the last moment.

Megane is the original Kardashian. That badonkadonk is very prominent.

I think most “normal people” just want to have an excuse for buying a newer and more expensive car.

I like the “It’s got a better fuel economy” argument. Yeah, definitely, nevermind the 20k you have to put on top of the resale price of your car to buy it.
I have no problem with changing cars, I do it all the time. If you want to change, just do it, don’t try to justify something unjustifiable. I think it’s mostly to talk themselves into the fact that they need it.
