And tragedy.

Kinja'd!!!

I just discovered Saint Jimmy has an alarm. I discovered this by setting it off while opening the driver’s door while it was locked. Without the keys in my pocket. I took off running to get them of course, not occurring to me at the time what it would look like.

The reason for this particular comedy, trying to open the door while it was locked because of this tragedy:

Kinja'd!!!

The hinge pins are badly worn, to the point the door is sagged so commedically low that the door was slammed until the striker broke off. Looks like a repair was attempted once, badly. So that’s a priority. I’ve already picked up new pins, still figuring out what I’ll do about the striker. The previous owners were using bungy cords to hold the door closed, one to the centre console and the and the other to a rear seat bracket. Just the lap belt to the centre console alone isn’t enough to keep it closed around right-handers, not the way I drive at least.

Kinja'd!!!

Other than that and some stains/hair on the upholstery, it’s pretty good for $250. Oh, the brakes could be much better but no other issues so far. Can’t complain either about 256,000km, 159,000 miles on the clock.

Kinja'd!!!

Kinja'd!!!

The other tragedy to this comedy is that my legal minimum insurance in Alberta cost more than full coverage on both the Niva and MJ in Manitoba. COMBINED. That’s capitalism and the free market at work for you guys.

But hey, it’s Saint Jimmy, and that’s it’s name.

So don’t wear it out.

For $250 that’s not bad. How many kms on the clock?

256,000. I was going to put it in the post, forgot. Watching the oilers game, little distracted.

Yeah, that door would be at the top of my list, too! Replacing pins isn’t too awful of a job to do. Hopefully they didn’t wallow out the hinges.

That hole in the door frame, though... Welding it back up is one thing, but I bet that getting a new striker in the right spot is gonna be tricky.

I’ve got the old striker and the torn steel still. I’m thinking measure off something on the passenger side if I can’t get the puzzle pieces back together in a way that works.

Yeah, it should be a mirror-image, shouldn’t it? Maybe with just the right measurements, you can bulls-eye it right into place.

MIL had a brown one of those for a while.  Interestingly, she had hinge issues with hers as well - wind caught the driver door and pulled it out of her hand and bent it back so the door never fit right...

That... Could work, yes. Although when the plan is to sell before I move home this winter...

Yeah it won’t help I reach the value, but it’ll hold the door in place for about 5 bucks.

Part of me is hoping to turn a tidy profit on it. But I won’t count my hatchlings before they’ve chickened.

In reality I’d guess the easiest way to do it would be to go to a junk yard with grinder in hand, chop out that section of B pillar, and then weld it in place on yours. Of coarse that means needing a grinder and welder.

The two I have, but not cordless and there are no wrecking yards anywhere close. Like 100+miles. But I’ve got the striker and chunk of steel that came out so I was just going to grab some scrap at the landfill and figure it out.
