Kinja'd!!!

I’m pretty pumped to see how he does. I don’t follow Indy at all, so what do Oppo think?

I’d love to see him win.

I think he’ll do well, but he has no IndyCar experience. I agree though, it’d be cool if he does win.

Yea I can’t imagine that it’s an easy transition going from F1 circuits to an oval with walls everywhere.

I’ve been to every 500 since 1997. I think he’ll perform well, and I wouldn’t be at all surprised to see a top 10 or even top 5 finish. He’s highly unlikely to win, and there’s so much unknown that being taken out in the first lap is always on the table, but I have no doubt that he’ll be capable of being competitive. I’m excited to see him race.

To be fair, isn ’ t Indy about 50/50 roads and ovals? I ’ ve only been to two IRL races — one of each.

I am just hoping it brings in more viewers. Indy Car has good races, but really isn’t bringing in the sponsors.

Is just like to see him make the checkered flag.

He’d be heartbroken not to finish in Spain, and that’s all he’s got before Indy.

The Indy 500 is raced on the speedway.

I don’t mean just the Brickyard, I mean the whole series.

500 hundred miles of left turns. But the track is so damned big that they really haul ass wide open.

Actually IndyCar is more road and street courses than ovals these days, but Alonso is only coming over to run the Indy 500.

Ahhh, I didn’t realize that. I saw him on the sidelines at the Barber race a couple weeks ago, I just assumed he was actually moving over here full time and not just for the 500.

Sadly, I imagine that he will spend that Sunday in the same position as your photo, not due to breakdown but another dumbass Indy driver taking him out in Turn 3 or 4.

ETA: he’s on track now testing...I can hear him

Nope, although I’d love to see him do that. Maybe in a couple years.

I think he’s going to fatigue qucikly, seeing how he’s not used to driving a car for that many laps in a row.

I hate to be among the DNF votes, but I feel like this has DNF all over it.

Mansell ran well on the crossover as did JPM, and he has a team that knows how to get an F1 guy running well at Indy (Rossi) but I feel like Alonso is going to be a victim of expectations and push it too hard on an ill-advised pass at some point.

Yea I can easily see that, especially because he’s hungry for action. Or at least I would think he would be.

The Chevy powered cars put on a clinic this past weekend at the oval at Phoenix. The Penske cars specifically have been the cream of the crop. It wouldn’t surprise me to see Alonso do well and be one of the better Hondas, but I don’t see him competing with the Penske cars.

Yeah I have no idea, they guy is massively talented and if anyone can get the feel for a new car/circuit it’s him. I will just hope he isn’t the victim of someone else’s mistake. I don’t know anything about Indy so I can’t really say, I mean is the car he’s getting a Ferrari/Mercedes level car in that series, is there a huge difference in Honda/Chevy cars and various teams given that it is a spec series? I don’t know. If he has decent equipment I wouldn’t bet against him.

Last weekend was the first oval course, and Chevy powered cars took 7 out of the 10 top spots, including the top 4 spots (which were the only 4 cars on the lead lap of the race). Only 4 cars led the race at any point, and those 4 cars were the 4 Chevys owned by Roger Penske. They finished 1st, 2nd, 4th, and 9th (due in part to making contact with another car).

My money would be on one of those 4 guys to win at Indy.

I’m having a tough time finding betting info for Indy. One site says 16/1 for an Alonso win, but that is all that I have found.
