This guy and his SSM Lotus is just stupid fast. With a time of 58.6, he was only about 7 tenths away from the shifter cart that had won FTD. He runs Hoosier A7 tires and has all sorts of bolt on goodies on the car. I don’t have a video of myself but I feel slow with my paltry 64.1 that put me in 28/103 at the event.

Here are some other videos of slower people from the event:

Very fun time though and I look forward to the next one and warmer weather. My slicks will be much happier with warm pavement.

Funny that you posted this.

I was literally just looking into the upcoming event at Bader Field later in May. I’ve never done any type of autocross and was hoping this will be something I like.

I have what seems like a million questions.

Are you a member of SCCA or do you just do it on a weekend basis?

If you are a member of the SJ region, do you go to the monthly meetings? I was wondering if they’re mandatory as Wednesdays just really don’t work for me.

How risky is it to Solo a daily driver? I drive a ‘15 Civic so it’s in good shape, but I can’t be without a car. I assume you’ll get some accelerated wear on tires and suspension bits, but that’s about it, right?

Final question, how the heck do you register? I get a DNS error when I try to register for the event at the end of the month.

I am an SCCA member, it saves a crap ton versus paying for weekend memberships. I usually do about 10-15 events per year and go to various regions to do so. Being a member of a particular region means absolutely nothing, its more or less a formality of who your region dues portion of the membership goes to. I have never been to any of the meetings although I have always wanted to check out the go karting ones since that would be fun. SJR is the most fun region in the area in terms of the cars and people that show up in my opinion. Others (North Jersey and Philly) are just a bit more serious and while they put on good events too, are a little less fun to me.

My Miata is my only car and I absolutely thrash it at all times. Driving it at an autox is not really any worse for the car lol. Slow car fast is my mentality at all times. Either way, the only thing that truly gets excess wear by doing Autox are tires. That has been one of the main factors behind me running a separate set of tires just for Autox. It is unecessary to worry about if you do like 1 event per month but when I am doing 3-4 events every month in the summer, its just better to have a dedicated set.

As far as registration goes, you can just show up day of and register and pay there. Sure its preferable to register ahead of time, but you dont have to. The sign up will be located here: https://axwaresystems.com/axorm/calendar_main.php

But you need to create an account on Axware. Other regions use this system as well but there are also various other ones. I dont believe the signup for Event #2 is available yet, you can see Event #1 on April 30th just if you are curious what it looks like.

Anyways, let me know if you have any other questions!

Thanks for all the information, I appreciate it!

If I decide to do this, I’m actually kind of dreading the drive down there. I live off the AC Expressway so I know how brutal shore traffic will be that weekend. lol

I mean, I have never seen traffic heading to any of the events there. Heading home is another story but even so, AC is a dead town nowadays lol. Granted, I take the Parkway so its different I guess. But I havent seen any traffic on the AC expressway on the part I do drive.

Definitely look into the Philly events too since you are out that way. The Warminster one is probably a little further but I know they do one in Philly at a stadium parking lot.

I just go to whatever event fits my schedule but I pick the SJR events every time if they are on the same day.

Okay, final question. How long does an event usually take? Are you there for 3 hours? 10? Curious what type of time commitment I am looking at to see if/when I can fit an event into my schedule.

It’s generally the whole day. I get there around 730ish, swap over my tires, registration opens around 830, I do some course walks, drivers meeting around 930, cars start driving around 10. The event will then run until about 3 or 4. I am usually on the road some time after 5 and home around 6.

Of course, if you can show up with your car ready to go and basically just leave right at the end, you can shave off at least 3 hours off that time. I like getting a good 3 or 4 course walks in, I will hang out and talk to people, and I take my time swapping the wheels on and off.

That holds true in most any region.

I got a ride in the Lotus at the last Philly event... He launched it and my head bounced off of the headrest with a resounding “clunk” :) I didn’t quite expect it to hook that hard, haha.

There’s a Philly event in the Wells Fargo Center lot on the 13th. Even if you don’t have time to do the whole day, come out and get rides! I’ve had passengers on almost every single run this year, haha. Unfortunately NJ doesn’t allow passengers unless they’re instructors so SJR is really limited in what “should” be allowed, so that’s kinda lame :(

Wrong_Wheel_Drive_NOT you should come up too and beat me in raw time, there’s no SJR event that day. :)

Yes, I actually already planned on being there for that event lol

I always forget that its just NJ that doesnt allow ride alongs. Have always enjoyed that at the PA events I have done. I really like the NEPA events since they are a bit less crowded, but the one at Oxford Valley mall with you Philly guys was great. Hopefully they still have that site, even after the wheel flying off the Evo incident lol.

Yep, I think we’re going back August 13th. That site was nice and chill, they didn’t seem to care about the wheel incident, lol.

We had 160+ drivers at the last Philly event, kinda sucked because we only did 4 runs. I instructed a TON of novices though, we had over 20 in the novice class alone, pretty crazy!

Have you done the Pocono events with NEPA? SOOO much fun

It was just crazy seeing that happen and somehow no cars were driving by at the time. I will definitely be looking to make it out again!

Yeah, the overcrowding is why I avoid the Warminster events generally. Its just not worth it for 4 runs. I will definitely end up at the Wells Fargo one though.

Somehow I have never done the Pocono one yet, just hasnt lined up timing wise but I have always wanted to go. Definitely my top priority for this season to go to at least one.
