FIAT Seicento Sportings! I love the ones with orange highlights....orange is one of my two favorite colors and I like the tasteful little splashes they used to add some flair to these. :)

the orange highlights finally make a car look reasonable in black.

I respectfully disagree! The Seicento was an in-house aggiornamento on the cheap of the Cinquecento, and a rather poor one indeed.

What happened is that Giugiaro thought he was going to get the contract for the second gen Cinq, and to that end developed the extremely cute Lucciola prototype. But at Fiat they deemed it way too expensive... and the Lucciola shape ended up gracing the Daewoo Matiz. Have a look here:

I confess that on long sleepless nights I wonder how expensive it would be to fit a Matiz body on a Cinquecento floorpan.

Fun fact: in Italian lucciola means “firefly” but also, er, “lady of the night”.

Very cool history lesson, never knew that! To be honest though I think I prefer the Seicento’s styling though, even if it is essentially just a modernized version of the Cinquecento.

I much prefer the Lucciola prototype to the Matiz, but I think the front end of the Lucciola just looks a little bland (though still better than the Matiz). It has a lot of first-gen Twingo in it to me (though the Lucciola came first, I know), but I prefer the Twingo as it has that nifty hood vent to break up the giant slab of a hood.

The question would be how different are the two bodies to the floorpan to even easily allow them to mate! As one example, weren’t all Matizes 4-door and the Cinq was only sold as a two-door?

where there’s a will there’s a way though.

Of course, and generally detailing the Matiz body to make it look more like a Lucciola wouldn’t be a small feat! But I like the idea as a pointless – if somewhat heroic –money-no-object exercise.

Yes. Look up “Lancia Y10 Yntegrale” somewhere.

Bonus Fiat Regata in the background of the first pic.

I remember seeing Cinquecento and Seicento Sportings in the past but I’m afraid they’re all gone.

They are another car on the list of cheap, basic but fun “Why the hell would you ever bother wanting one of those???” cars that people think I am crazy for liking. :P

So far I have the FIAT 126, Citroen 2CV/Dyane/Ami, Trabant, Skoda 105/120/130/Estelle series, FSO Polonez, FSO Syrena, classic Ladas, several Kei cars, and the list goes on! :D
