Caliber SRT4.

Kinja'd!!!

It’s a Caliber, but it’s hard to argue with nearly 300 HP and a stick.

A valid observation. Both round to a fault, both Ford products. Bonus points for another cool version of an easy to hate car.

175 hp. 180 ft/lbs tq with power coming on early. 6 spd manual. Limited slip differential. Brembo brakes. 90% new suspension components compared to the standard sentra, with stiffer, shorter coils, extra bracing, adjustable endlinks, etc. A tiny spoiler. Bucket seats. Sleeper looks, but still an attractive front end. In a car you can find for Miata prices. Excuse me while I go look for one...

So much yes. I’ve driven a Caliber, and I hated it. I’ve driven a Caliber SRT-4, and oh my Fit it’s amazing, all sins are forgiven when the boost hits. The ugly exterior, the piece of plastic that runs from the a pillar to the rear tailights, the way snow, dust and pollen like to collect on top of the tailights. The horrible interior, the plastic shifter knob, the 2008 Chryslerness so if it.

All of that is forgiving when you see the boost gauge go sching, and you feel a smile on your face.

When my dad’s Taurus died and was abandoned in Alberta while a Ford dealer resurrected it, we were in a string of rental cars for a few weeks. We had a Caliber for a few hours, before my dad hated it so much that he took it back and got something different. There was also a PT Cruiser. Same story, tolerated it for a few hours, and took it back mostly because he didn’t want to be seen in it.

We used to have a Rover 75 Connoisseur 1.8 K Series.

Just like this,

Kinja'd!!!

It wasn’t a bad car, solid, reliable but a little on the small side inside.

It just wasn’t great.

But then as MGRover Group were starting to go under, they came out with the Rover 75/MG ZT 4.6 V8.

Kinja'd!!!

The Rover 75 getting the big front grille Audi tried suing them over, till Rover told them to f*** off and showed them it was an homage to the original Rover 75s of old with their large grilles.

Like the 1949 Rover 75.

This here:

Kinja'd!!!

The Megane 2 was ugly as sin, sold mostly as slow diesels and of crappy quality. The RS version is still not a beauty (the front is ok, but the rear is terrible) but if you sit in it, you don’t have to look at it, and if you drive it like you stole it, you don’t have time to look at the ugly dash.

So, ah, how much can you get one of those Omegas for over there?

A friend’s British specialty shop had an S-type with intermittent module communication issues, the whole interior was out for wiring diagnosis, it was an absolute nightmare. We’ve serviced a couple of them, not a good car. But the R at least looks a little better, and has some useful power. I’d certainly never own one!

Here’s one, needs a new clutch or something though.

The engines of the S-type R aren’t that bad actually. I can imagine the electronics being a nightmare. The one I lusted for was an early one, BRG with these wheels:

Kinja'd!!!

Had only 94k kms on it. Still didn’t dare getting it.

Kinja'd!!! "RallyWrench" (rndlitebmw)
05/03/2017 at 15:37, STARS: 1

I would drive that wagon! Can’t be that hard to put a clutch in.

See, it’s the blacked out headlamps, different bumpers, mesh grille, and those wheels that make the car look right. BRG probably looked spectacular, this red one I saw really popped nicely. Still for sure a bad idea though :)
