Boullier was mum on the eventuality that Mercedes could lend a helping hand to Honda, as suggested at F1's Strategy Group meeting last week in Paris.
But the Frenchman was adamant that its engine partner must now initiate work on its 2018 engine.
“2017 is still under development,” he said, “and the rest is the responsibility of Honda.
“But Honda must start now. Mercedes, for example, already has an engine that will run in 2018.”

Honda is that guy you invite to a party with all of your regular friends. He seems totally calm, professional and under control in public; but the moment the air of the party enters his lungs he just starts shitting all over everything. Shits on the coats in the guest bedroom, pisses in the sink in the kitchen, is the first to pass out drunk, and most importantly doesn’t wake up early enough to clean up before anyone else wakes up. And then his SO or parents have to come pick him up because his license is expired. Alonso and Stoffel come by to sheepishly pick him up and apologize for his actions yet again.

According to the only local (Belgian) newspaper that concerns itself with F1, Mercedes is set to help Honda develop the engine, with improvements slated for after the summer recess (Spa). Part of the deal is that in terms of power, they should still produce at least 50 hp less than the Mercedes unit until the end of the season.
All of this was supposedly arranged at top manufacturer level, so by Zetsche and his Honda counterpart, against the wishes of Wolff and Lauda.

Yeah there are rumors, but you know F1, sometimes the crazy shit is true, sometimes it’s all fluff. In any case, they need to get on with the 2018 engine!

Well I am used to Japanese names and I remember thinking Arai was going to need a helmet in his next meeting when he returned to Japan. This was kind of his final project before he retired, too bad it wasn’t on a high note...
