You can (try to) go asymmetric in an oval.
Besides the left engine, this experimental thing also has a left tire, a middle tire, a rear tire and a front tire. The front and the rear tire were the steering ones and the other two were the driven wheels.
Not very surprisingly, this thing was banned before it got to race. After this the builder, Kenny Reece, chopped up the chassis into tiny pieces to get rid of the frustration.

As it was banned before any racing, it was never truly pushed to the limits and we’ll never know if it would have been fast. But during the practice runs it proved to handle well. I’m pretty sure that it would have been very fast.
