Apparently Instagram just banned the hashtag #porsche

Yes, sometime in the last 2-3 days, Instagram banned the hashtag #porsche and all its derivatives (#porschegt3, #porsche918, #porschecarreragt, etc).

It seems to have something to do with Instagram’s latest wave of “shadow bans” that target hashtag spammers by making their posts not show up in the hashtag stream.

Not sure what Porsche did to get lumped into this, but hopefully IG sorts it out quickly enough.

I hope they ban all hashtags. People who put a hashtag behind every word in a sentence need to be kicked off.

I used to think that, but that’s honestly how Instagram works. Just like filibusters or soccer players faking injuries; you can hate them, but you’re not playing the game to your advantage if you don’t take advantage of those rules.

Besides, you can leave hashtags in a comment instead of the caption so they won’t be visible unless you open the comment thread.

Maybe they are waiting on a Porsche engineer to design a new Beetle?

How about using twitter to post pics of documents to get around the 144-character limit? I don’t even use twitter, but I’m shocked it took that long. /slashtag

I love that pic. I have to wonder how much on-site detailing was needed to get the grime and slush off the cars. On the plus side, none of them will overheat.

Agreed. it’s also the best way to find things that interest you. For example, I’ve become a part of the community for my model of motorcycle because of the hashtags.

On Facebook and Twitter? Yeah. But Instagram is all about the hashtag. If not for the hashtag no one would see the things I post on mine.

I can’t stand people who turn their child’s name (or nickname) into hashtags. #soannoying

I don’t quite understand. Are just too many people using #Porsche? That seems kind of dumb. Now how am I supposed to let all 3-ish of my followers know about the going ons of my #Porsche924?

I posted Sunday afternoon and it wasn’t blocked, must have been after that. Also, agreed.....two or three hashtags is the max for me.

Honestly, I think it’s a glitch with their algorithms, not a conscious decision to screw over Porsche. IG pretty much never communicates with their users, so they don’t even acknowledge problems let alone reassure users that they’re trying to fix it.

IG occasionally bans certain words. Many are violent or inappropriate, but others are seemingly random. For example:
