A 17 year old, 88K km Suzuki Sv650. When i got her, she was a sad, old, dusty bike left forgotten in a warehouse after her previous owner had acquired a Harley.

I bought her with the plan to bring her back from the dead and give her a new lease on life.

-remove shitty plastidip that protected the gleaming yellow paint underneath
-give her a bath to remove all of the dust build up
-clean out the carbs. new jets, gaskets, float needles and seats
-clean out the vacuum fuel pump
-replace the vacuum fuel petcock
-new fuel lines
-new spark plugs
-new plug leads
-new DRL? bulb. The little tiny middle light
-new chain and sprockets
-new brakes pads front and back
-redid the tail tidy with a dremel and some fiberglass
-new LED strip turn signals all around. and I do mean ALL around.
-found a rear grab bar and a set of side infills that didnt come with the bike
-new starter solenoid
-checked the valve lash
-oil change

On the bright side, the bike DID have a Sargent seat, the tank prop, hard to find lower fairings and the original owners manual with it. And the front and rear seats were both rip free!

Now, shes ready to move on. I’ve enjoyed my time tinkering with her, now I need something else with which to get my hands dirty. So she goes on Kijiji today. If any oppos want her, lemme know.

Very clean. I’m more of a naked SV kind of guy, but I think the first gens look a lot nicer with the fairings.

Star for the curvy SV650s. I recently sold mine too, it was such a great bike.

Also just found out the new owner just traded it in for a GSX-R750, after only 2 months with the SV. Hope he wears his gear.

Are you still asking ~$2k?

If so, I’m tempted, again, but I have a couple of questions:

With 88K km, how long could I realistically expect it to last before it needs a motor rebuild?

How happy/unhappy would the bike be with a daily 5km (one way) commute? I imagine that’s too short to get everything warmed up nicely by the time I’d park and that I’d shorten it’s life that way.

How much might one of these be to insure? (Mid 20s, no previous bike insurance, clean driving record).

Never realized how much like a Katana those looked until just now.

88k km is just getting broken in on the 650 motor.

aside from a touring honda, these are probable THE most reliable and stable motors in the motorcycle world. the Vstrom uses it, and i’ve seen many many many of those with over 200K km.

the bike will put up with more or less whatever. part of the reason the SV was such a cult bike. track rat, daily commuter, tourer. whatever you want.
5k km is a bit short, so over the weekends you might want to take it for a bit of a longer ride just to clear up any condensation in the motor.

its a little cheaper to insure, esp as you live out side. shouldnt be a lot more then 1750 a year on the HIGH side. on the other hand, how much $ do you save with gas?

also, being an oppo, I’ll help you out a little bit more with it. I think i might have a spare lid kicking around and help down the road if needed.

I’ve never been much of a motorcycle guy but I always love this generation of Suzuki. I’m a man who likes curves. And it is painted an actual COLOR! Nicely restored!

Got a couple of quotes from my insurance broker and it’s at least $3500/yr for me right now. The perils of being a new rider, I guess. Gonna wait a bit, do a rider training course when I get time, get the M2 and see what insurance will cost me then.

I’ve got a helmet already so I’m good there, thanks for the offer.

Don’t hold the bike on my account, lots of fish in the sea.

you asked with a M1 didnt you?

dont even bother with that. M1 is only a 90 day permit anyways. ask with M2 and see where it goes from there

Well if my side hustle of restoring old exhausts and parts pan out (I got inspired by the front page and scored a screamer of a deal on some starters) I would *eventually* like to purchase an SV659 but I am bummed I can’t buy yours :(

I did, haha. Getting a bike will be on the back burner until I’ve got the M2.
