Well both my grandfather and myself have go off the into the deep end of car restoration. We have done bare metal restorations in the past (my 68 Camaro being one of them), but we have never pulled a body off the frame or have had access to a rotisserie. Well a fellow car guy down the road let us have access to one and we decided to go for it. We wanted to do this car right since it is very special within the family. This 55 Chevy Bel Air has been in my grandparents ownership over 45 years now, with 3 generations working on it. Its also been dubbed Project X 55, like the famous 57 Project X, this 55 has had pretty much every old school engine/tranny combo in its lifetime.

Its had the quarters cut for slicks at one time (prior to my grandparents ownership), been a dedicated show car in the late 70's with many chrome suspension bits, then a nice cruiser in the 80's and 90's with the best stereo tech for 1987 and later becoming a some what early pro touring car with some trick suspension work. Then by the 2000's the paint was showing it age and the original factory applied lead was starting to let go, so the car was parked and the motor in it was sold. A few attempt were made to get the car back on the road but countless problems killed any drive to get it going again with other projects on the table. Well now its finally the old cars turn and its going to get the full treatment. Already have the motor/tranny combo squared away. Have an early 60's 327ci small block Chevy that came out of a flipper car with over $6000 of work done, it will be backed by a T10 4 speed manual. To row the gears is a hard to find original early Impala spaghetti linkage set up my grandpa has had stored for 30 years. Going to go back with the factory blue/white combo and stock blue/white interior. The goal is to get it on the road next year and planing to do the Power Tour with it.

Here are some pics of the car in various stages:

It’s nice to see a car that’s been in a person’s care for so long. Looks like a good base to start with. Hope all turns out well. Keep us posted!

Awesome, looks like it’ll be a great car when it’s back together.
