Salsa Horsethief 29er full suspension, hydraulic discs, newer tires, rebuilt shocks. One of the last ones before they went to a split pivot rear end, which is fine, it rides great. Drove three hours through the mountains to get it too, absolutely beautiful and super fun in the 55. Would’ve taken the Duc but couldn’t work out how to carry a mountain bike back.

I’m sure the racking is secure, but I’m having heart palpitations just looking at it.

Spend slightly less on motor bike to pay for non motor bike?

Lol yeah it’s fine. The rear shock setup made it really awkward to mount. I checked it multiple times on the drive home. If it wasn’t so late in the day when I was getting it I would’ve tried other configurations, but as it was I still got home after 10pm last night.

Nice! I keep wanting to try my hand at some real mountain biking, but know it would turn into another case of too many hobbies with not enough time.

I also bought a two wheeled thing over the weekend :)

Lol you’re going to miss the triumph. You should rent mountain bike and come with me and rye sometime. It’s super fun!

I took the monster out Saturday and put a bunch of miles on it. I’ll post a story about it later. Epic misery (bike was outstanding though).

Very nice, can I ask what it set you back?

I personally bought a hardtail 29er from bikesdirect for the trails around here I actually quite like the hardtail. It handles most of the jumps I hit just fine. Except for those few times the rear end kicks up and I end up riding it out on my front wheel with absolutely no steering feeling like I’m about to die. Anywaaaaaaay.

I’ve thought about upgrading, now that i’ve ascertained I enjoy mountain biking. Although i could simply upgrade my front fork and tires and have quite a nice bike.

I remember something about all that. Easy solution: increase your income!

Have you decided which bike you’re going to get?

still need to ride GSX-S and S1000R. also, I saw a NEW 2016 super duke discounted to within my price range.

UGH. FIRST WORLD PROBLEMS

A grand. Normally you can’t touch a bike this nice for that.

I used to ride a hard tail. But the trails around here made that very difficult at times do I would end up walking a lot. That bike had quite a few other shortcomings too though.

There’s nothing quite like riding a nice full suspension bike! I suggest renting one before making the jump though, some people prefer a good hard tail.

the MT. the noise, the way it delivers power, the looks, the sheer effortlessness of it all.

2nd gear, 20-120 was stupid. I mean down right stupid. bike was trying to put the front in the air the entire time.

Lol, I probably will miss it, but it was time to try something different and I’m space constrained. People rent mountain bikes now!?! Hell yes I’d be down for that (as long as you’d be ok we me being chickenshit and slow, probably)

As for the misery, you get caught in that surprise rain that nobody was predicting?

I loathe trunk racks like that in general. Hard to get the bike so it feels secure, hard to protect the car’s paint, leaves the bike exposed, creates a bit of weird aero when when driving. These days, I always just pop a wheel, fold down my rear seats and throw the bike in my trunk.

Yeah... Very similar to our ride to Astoria last year, but magnitudes colder.

And yeah! Rentals are only like $60/day! You can go at whatever pace you like!

Before and After from my weekend...

Took me 40 minutes to get the mud off (and yes, I know not to ride wet trails, this was part of a race, they flooded a section intentionally.)

Fun! But what’s wrong with riding wet trails? I live in the PNW, so if I’m afraid of riding wet trails I’m never going to ride. There are even frequent stream crossings. Wet trails means no dust!

Kinja'd!!! "PotbellyJoe and 42 others" (potbellyjoe)
05/02/2017 at 07:14, STARS: 1

Yeah we have trails similar with crossings. It’s safe for the trails in a sprinkle, but muddy trails are easier to damage so that’s not good.
