Unless that tune is pulling ALL of the timing then the engine is probably fukt. L36s have enough of an issue with knock when naturally aspirated. Throwing boost without an intercooler at an L36 is a recipe for ringlands to go byebye.

Yeah... those engines have enough ping issues naturally aspirated. Can it be done? sure. I’ve done turbo L36 builds. But you have to have meth injection and a shitton of intercooling to make it work.

I’ve worked on quite a few top swaps. It’s all about careful tuning. I can’t count how many people get their own tuner and just are not careful with the timing and fueling adjustments, “lete try this, that....” oops I chipped a piston when I dropped 5 pulley sizes !!!

Yes but it’s not very different from a top swap. It can still be handled. Sure the hot air and detonation will be issues, but it can still be tuned properly even without an IC. It would take a lot of time to get the tune correct and safe though, and I have serious doubts that kind of effort was put into this build, so no doubt THIS car will have a melted piston soon if it doesn’t already have a few chips missing.
What amazes me about the L36/L67s is how long they will keep running (sometimes quite well) with a chunk missing out of the side of a piston! (How long ago was it you removed that squished spark plug? 2 years? - yes I’ve had that conversation with someone!)
