If one of these is a good idea..... Checks some of my boxes. Obviously with lower mileage.

AWD/4WD

Reliable enough

Can tow a 21 foot boat, bikes or jetskis

Can sorta contain cargo

Manual

Fun to drive

Cheaper than a truck, but gives more features

“Reliable enough”

Uhhhhh I don’t think that “reliable” is the word to describe it.

They’re not bad as far as reliability goes.

Mainly because there’s like no manual ones that don’t have a billion miles on them.

I mean, if you lower your standards anything will be reliable. I’m assuming there’s no warranty, and I’m also assuming parts carry a premium.

Good luck. I look forward to your future posts about unreliable VAG products.

But 142,000 miles on a manual that would be used for towing heavy things.

For no reason I can discern I have always thought, if I needed to buy a vehicle in this class, it’d be a Volvo XC90. Drove a 1st gen, liked it, and trust the brand - probably unwise. But there you have it.

One of the guys from Everyday Driver has one. He’s made 2 or 3 Youtube videos since purchase to give updates. SPOILER: He hasn’t had to do anything other than scheduled maintenance.

They do have 2 common failures (coolant pipes and the driveshaft). A good majority on the market have already had at least one of those addressed.

Good point. The best course of action would be a running gear and engine swap from a Cayman GT3, in the name of reliability of course

Don’t. Just, don’t. Aftermarket wheels on a Touareg means they didn’t spend that money on maintenance.
