I’m at the British Speedway semi-final and one of the competitors had a mechanical break down on the way to the event and was automatically disqualified. So, instead of running some of the heats with only 3 of 4 riders, the referee decided to invite one of the local Newcastle Gems Junior riders to compete against the pros. He’d been out practising before the meet and had his bike set up and ready to go. So 16 year old Josh Embleton has raced all 4 heats and lost all 4 heats at the British Speedway semi-final, but, and I quote, ‘I have had the best time tonight. I lost every race, but it was the best. Just the best. The crowd were fantastic.’ Good lad, and good on the organisers.
