It’s styling has aged quite well in my eyes. De Tomaso had some good designs going on in the 90s including the Pantera II/200/SI. I’d love to own either a Guara or 2nd-gen Pantera just so I could desicrate it with a Coyote or later modular motor.

Does that have a retractable windshield or is it completely open? Either way I think that has aged very well.

All it needs now is the widebody with the airdam and wing, because you’ll want all the downforce to keep that monster planted!

Why would that be desecration? Wouldn’t it be an improvement, more available power?

Totally agree - besides, De Tomaso was just using whatever Ford engines they could get their hands on. It’s not like they were beholden to the later Windsor and 302.

You’re right in that it’d be a proper upgrade while keeping the original spirit of the vehicle intact, but since the production numbers are so low (not counting the original Pantera, finding the 2nd-gen is a LOT harder) it’s almost worth keeping the original powerplant because there are so few examples out there to begin with.

Wow, I forgot all about this car. It still looks phenomenal; I’d argue that even moreso today than 20 years ago.

If I were a wealthy human, I would buy whatever project car I wanted, transplant the power unit into some form of functioning display, so it could be remarried to the car later on.
