Kinja'd!!!

Let’s talk about keeping your SO happy.

I have often written about how capable of a hauler a Boxster can be. I took the photo above while we were helping set up for a party. Turns out the Boxster was defeated by three lousy baloons! Clearly girlfriend was not amused. She got stuck holding two since only one fit in the trunk. But she is a good sport and humors my automotive interests.

What have the people in your life put up with for your hobby?

My wife puts up with the fact that I buy and sell and buy and sell cars like it’s my job, even if it’s not...

My now-wife never complained when I had four partially running vehicles in our driveway. She was just happy that I was excited about something. That being said, once I mentioned I was thinking about selling them, you better believe she immediately replied with a nod and a touch of the hand, “It’s time.”

Too honest. We Americans love our euphemisms.

May I recommend uninflated ballons and a cheap helium tank next time?

I once endured to drive 11 hours from Melbourne to Adelaide with the roof off my 300ZX. Complete with sub-freezing temperatures and early start. It was a great time.

1) Have a Veloster that I should be getting back from the shop on Monday. It’s had loads of electrical glitches, speaker problems, brake problems, and the engine exploded (cylinder #1) at 18,000 km... I got it detailed while it was there and I’m putting it up for sale once I get it home; within the hour. The AMC runs well enough at this point, and I can use my motorcycles now.

2) The wife often put up with my Wrangler having no top up, or no doors on. She was generally ok with the top down. Pretty much never okay with no doors, and refused to go anywhere on the highway in doorless mode. And pretty much all summer I would leave the “sail panels” (plastic sides and back) off, even when raining. So of course the carpet was also never in all summer.

3) Before that I had a POS Sonoma. We re-painted it after I did some body work, and her Mom reupholstered the bench seat in this AWESOME old-school plaid fabric. But the truck was loud, shaky, and prone to electrical problems. Problems like no lights in the dark, or no wipers in the rain, or no heat in the cold... etc. But at the time I needed a truck to haul tools around job sites.

4) Before that I had a Honda CRX... great car to drive. Problematic to own. Exhaust leaks, heater problems, ignition harness failed, head gasket blew, clutch died... It also only had two seats and we were young with a lot of carless friends. One night there were 7 of us in it. I sold it when the clutch went...

I don’t know how she puts up with me sometimes. Love. She MUST really love me.

Holy shit.

The Jeep thing sounds like the ultimate expression of what I want to be. I love taking parts off my car that shouldn’t come off.

When I bought the Wrangler it had a BIG warning sticker on each door that stated the doors were not a structural feature and were only for debris protection.

I think that’s why you can legally remove them. As a warning-note, Wranglers have TERRIBLE side impact protection ratings...

That’s really strange. Why is that necessary? A sticker that says “ These doors aren’t that important”.

Cool though. Good job Jeep. Even with side impact maimings

I think that’s the disclaimer that makes it legal to remove them and drive around doorless. As soon as they’re required for structural support they’re required by law in most places.
