Has anyone been to either Montenegro or Serbia? I’m going to be there for around 10 days during late June.
Wanted to see if there’s any suggestions about places to go and visit. The more off the beaten path the better. So far I’m planning to see Kotor and then make my way down to Bar. Take the train from Bar to Belgrade and then see some castles in the surrounding area of Belgrade.
Yugo for your time.

Maybe you could see some WW1 sights/museums. Serbia played a huge role in WW1 and I’m sure there is a wealth of things to see.

Can’t say I’ve seen more of former Yugoslavia than Slovenia and Croatia. Sadly.

I’m from Belgrade. There’s tons to see, just depends on how many days you’re there. Some highlights:
Kalemegdan Fortress: Belgrade’s 1500 year old fortress – archaeologists dig up something new practically every day. You could easily spend a half-day exploring everything there is, from monuments, to restaurants, viewpoints, museums, gates... Also, the Belgrade Zoo is actually in there as well!

Skadarlija: a bohemian neighborhood centered around a stone pedestrian street (Skadarska) brimming w/ character and authentic restaurants.

Knez Mihailova/Terazije: The raw center of the city, full of landmarks, monuments, and historic architecture.

Avala Tower: The tallest tower in the Balkans. A bit of a drive away from Belgrade, but worth it for the view alone. Check the Monument to the Unknown (WWI) Hero out while you’re there, too.

As for Montenegro, don’t skip Budva! The old town (Stari Grad) in particular is a must-see.

You’re welcome! All depends on what you’re into, there’s no shortage of Nightlife in Belgrade...
For clubs/electronic music, anything in the Savamala neighborhood or one of the barges along the Sava (Splavovi, i.e. actual barges converted into clubs/restaurants) should be a good bet.
Live bands, playing more traditional music, can be found in basically every restaurant on Skadarska. If you just wanna walk around, Knez Mihailova street is the way to go. No matter where/when you’re out, there’ll always be people around and stuff going on!
