Those things are pretty awesome, but it would be scary to downshift with those. Not a big problems for drag racing, but still you can at least downshift with those. With a traditional Lenco transmission, that isn’t even possible while the car is moving.

Not true, Lencos can be downshifted. They’re basically manually shifted automatics without a clutch. Side effect is that they have a ton of reverse gears!

I thought that the “street Lenco” had sprag clutches to allow downshifting, but the tougher race version didn’t have these.

Pro stock with twin countershafts. Probably 2000HP and 1500LBft for 7 seconds. The trans is rated for 3000HP/3600LBft.

Note that each gear has two points of contact vs. a single in a normal manual. This is not unlike big rig transmissions.

Those have to support 1500LBft, but for much longer duration and higher shock loads. Compare that to one of their own single countershaft designs which is rated to only 1100HP:
