So yesterday I decided to replace the fuel filter due to the plugs showing a lean condition and no CEL. So I started kind of late, because I didn’t want to work on a hot engine and I was having trouble getting the new filter to fit and it was getting dark, so I decided to finish it the next morning before class.
The next morning I get the bottom , with some unexpected difficulty, and top connected. However when I prime it, fuel sprays out a pinhole in the top. After taking the banjo bolt out I found a burr on the top of the filter that was preventing the washer from sealing.
So I walk to O’Reilly’s and exchange it and pay $10 for the WIX brand. Repeat the process and again fuel’s spraying out the top. So I took out the banjo bolt, replaced the top new washer with the old one; put it back together and now it’s working.
Holy fuck O’Reilly’s for $20 you can’t make a filter that seals and for $30 the washers still don’t seal! Go fuck a camel and die O’Reilly’s. I checked with the dealer just now and they sell the filter and washers for $32.
Also still have no idea what this thing does. It’s a fuel line that attaches to the fuel filter bracket and just stops there plugged. I haven’t traced it yet (I do know it lead back under the car though), but I highly doubt it’s stock. Probably some emission’s work around.

I’ve been waiting on O’Reilly’s to call me back for about 5 years now, they said they’d call Edelbrock to check on a bracket I needed for my 68 Montego MX Cyclone that they failed at ordering twice (making me mess a classic car event) and then call me back once they did.
I don’t even own the Montego any more, still no call....

I wouldn’t blame O’Reilly’s for a faulty WIX filter.
WIX is a good filter manufacturer. Surprised that you got a faulty part but it happens regardless of the manufacturer. In general, WIX is one of the best filter manufacturers out there.

i quit doing buisness with them a while back. they went and made me mad when i was putting together my short short bed truck............. the system showed the part i needed. they didnt have the part there. i told them to order me the part. i would pay upfront for it. they had to CHECK to see if they could order the part(rag joint between the steering box and steering shaft(common part)) and then they would give me a call to let me know if they could sell it to me. i live 45 minutes away. so later that day, they give me a call to say that yes they can. i tell them to get it on its way over, and i will pick it up tomorro. they then said...... get this “you have to come back to the store to pay up front BEFORE we can order it for you,” and it would be 8 days before it can get here. INSTEAD, went to car quest, in Helotes (rip) they had one at another store, and would get it for me within the hour if i could wait.
awesome place, that car quest, along with the one on roosevelt(south side) IT has a machine shop, and they have most any seals or gaskets i have needed. if they didnt, it was a day, two TOPS out..........

Pretty sure that orange line is stock, I had one on the ‘94 Integra I just finished tearing apart. Can’t remember what it was for exactly though.

In Washington I always went to NAPA, not only did I never have to wait even a whole day for anything, but they also had a machine shop were they would press out ball joints, bearing, and bushings for like $10. Which was awesome.

Nope. Wix is the shit. A lot of top dollar house brands are made by wix. A lot of OE filters are made by wix.

This man speaks the truth. WIX is one of the best filter producers out there.
Their top of the line product group is very high quality.
You can purchase filters directly from WIX, from NAPA, from O’Reilly’s and any independent distributor who chooses to stock them.

CarQuest is OK. The Carquest brand is actually owned by Advance Auto Parts.
There are some locations that are still independently owned, but most all of them have been bought out by Advance. The CQ branding might still exist on the wall, but it is likely run by ADV corporate.
Interestingly, most all Carquests used to be entirely privately owned. The owners paid for parts, the branding, the software and marketplace data, etc. from CQ corporate.
NAPA Auto Parts has a similar model. The majority of NAPA stores outside of major city areas are entirely privately owned. They aren’t franchises either. Completely privately owned.

that would go a long ways toward explaining why all the napa stores, that i have been in, seemed so very well organized, stocked, and generally the shelves well groomed. it also explains why their prices seem a bit steep. its hard to keep up with the monster chain stores.......i miss getting to dig through the large parts books catalogs.if you knew what you were doing, you could find ANYTHING...... here about a year ago the car quest lost all of its branding, and got all switched over to advance. it lost is hometown feel instantly. at least tractor supply moved in.......

Idk, Honda OBD-I is useless in my experience. I’ve had vacuum leaks that were audible while driving that didn’t throw a CEL.

The MAP sensor adjusts for the vacuum leak to keep the mixture right. Better than a carburetor or MAF in that way. Yours is burning oil, right? That would be a rich condition not a lean one.
A half acetone half ATF fluid soak might help free up the oil control rings on the pistons. Replaced a lot of stuck oil rings when I worked on Hondas

Not sure what you mean by ash exactly. But it seems like something crystallized on the plug. It’s not the normal color either. It’s much whiter than normal. I think the grey spots may be the normal color actually.

If you are trying to use plug reading for tuning then you have to put fresh plugs in a hot engine and run a quarter mile and shut the engine off at the traps then read them.
