This was before the Defiant was introduced (literally introduced in the next episode). After seeing this, Sisko decides to bring his Motherfucking’ Pimp Hand out out storage and use it to slap some sense into anyone thinking of trying that again

As much as I love DS9, some of these battle scenes make me cringe. The same weapons that rape the hell out of a freaking Galaxy class do barely anything to a runabout. Riiiiiiiiiight.

Okay, I don’t have the option of watching this with the sound on. This is obviously a different Galaxy class ship. How was it able to be defeated so easily? And if it was on a rescue mission, they the hell was the saucer section even there? Seems a waste of people who don’t need to be in harm’s way.
I admittedly never really got in to DS9. I tried a few times but I just couldn’t. Speaking of, I need to finish my run through TNG. Once I do that I’ll give DS9 another try, then Voyager. Weirdly enough, my favorite series is a tossup between TNG and Enterprise. I think Enterprise was massively underrated.
I’d like to watch Discovery, but no way am I paying for some CBS streaming service for just that.

This Galaxy is the Odyssey and it was called in as backup to cover for rescuing Sisko and company (Sisko and Quark took Jake and Nog camping or something on the Gamma quadrant side of the wormhole and they got ambushed by the Jem’Hadar).
The Galaxy gets rekt because it’s a glorified cruise ship fighting dedicated combat vessels. Also Starfleet routinely sends civilians into harm’s way. I mean remember the Yamato blowing up from an Iconian virus in the middle of the Neutral Zone? Makes me think the Federation has an overpopulation problem.
As for DS9, it deconstructs Rodenberry’s vision of a utopia, which is why it’s my favorite trek series. So to me, TNG was mostly just meh with several notable highlights. Voyager was pretty much the same, especially with the Doctor focused episodes (I always knew him as Stargate’s Richard Woolsey). Enterprise was just cringey until season 3 and 4, where it got better

Well, of course the Enterprise would’ve survived. It has so much plot armor from the main cast, the only way it can get destroyed is if one of the main characters decides to blow it up

You know, now that you mention it, it does appear Starfleet doesn’t value civilian life very high.
Maybe that’s a avenue worth exploring. Starfleet should have some heavy artillery battle ships. Why not focus on their journeys?
