...anybody have one they picked up from Amazon or Ebay that they recommend? Thinking of picking up the Torque App for my phone and looking into getting one, but there are so many out there at a variety of prices, I don’t want to order a bad one.

You know, things like this?

Any opinions?

Get Metromile insurance and save some coin and get the OBDII diagnostics.

I have this one.   https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01LA73LY8/ref=mp_s_a_1_19?ie=UTF8&qid=1493257655&sr=8-19&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=obdii+bluetooth+adapter&dpPl=1&dpID=51AlCdcfU0L&ref=plSrch

It’s worked on 2 Bmw’s, an Acura, and a 997 GT3. It did not work on a 2011 335i though. Still for the price I’ve got my moneys worth. Probably need an updated version by now. I’ve had it for 2 years.

I have one and find it to be a huge hassle to constantly have set up and running on your phone. If you need it though, go for it. My $15 one worked well.

i have a cheap one, likely similar to the one you linked. it is excellent for reading values and clearing codes. but it is slow so crap for anything realtime.

All you need to ensure is that it’s an ELM327, I believe. Most are identical. It’s just that chip connected to a bluetooth serial bridge chip.

I’ve got this one. It takes a minute to connect, but is fairly responsive once it’s got it. I use it with Torque, paying a few bucks for the full version has been well worth it.

I like the Piston ODBII app over torque personally

The one I have isn’t sold anymore. I tried another first which didn’t work. I’d say just buy whatever < $20 one and accept that you may end up having to return it because quality control on these is terrible.

I have the exact one you linked and it works fine on many different vehicles. Also the torque app is amazing. I have another one that is a bit older but looks exactly the same just different brand and it still works fine too

Yeah, I know they are crap in some cases, that’s why I was asking for opinions :P

I wouldn’t mind having to return one if necessary, but it would be nice if it worked first try! I’d like to get one for helping diagnose things - I do already have a cheap OBDII scan-tool.

I’ll be getting the full version I believe. Looking for an OBDII adapter that isn’t amazing, but as long as it is fairly decent I’ll be happy.

Yeah, I’ll try and make sure the one I get specifically states that protocol somewhere.

I’ve considered it, but probably not necessary to have one on my family’s fleet of Accents. :P

Hoping I can find one that is not perfect, but at least decently responsive...

I wouldn’t need it constantly set up - just the times I am trying to diagnose things. :)

I like the layout better and the ability to select which sensors info you want. Kind of like a smartphone Cobb Accessport.

I get better mileage trying to keep instant below today’s mpg, also tracks fill ups, distance to empty, and gives me a handful of metrics that the computer sees. Outside temp, coolant temp, and transmission temp. It’s always there, out of the way, and works great. Also use it to read and clear codes.

I found it so useful I bought a second for the Subaru..

Hmmm....might have to look into one then. There is plenty of space to mount mine at the bottom of the gauge cluster...
