After the front driveshaft was fixed due to a recall, the dealership said the oil pan gasket was leaking pretty bad and needed to be replaced. Guess how much they want for that.

Like that, except with a front axle going through the oil pan. So, worse.

Actually, it’s probably a can of high priced RTV in lieu of a gasket.

Looks like my S8 v10 oil pan. Except I can get to 2/3s of the bolts, except for the back row, it means dropping the subframe and exhaust. That one looks a bit more ugly, but I would think you can drop the rack out and probably crossmember to gain access. Might have to release an engine mount too.

Pain in the ass for sure.

This is when a quart of synthetic every 2,000 miles makes more sense.

If it was out of warranty, this would be the solution.

I’ve heard from so many people how horrid the X5 really is.

The question is, is it worse than the Touareg?

I don’t remember exactly how much oil I was putting into my 2001 325xi when I sold it around 200k, but it was... yeah close to that. So many good things about that car. Oil seals not being one.
