The funny thing is, many years ago there was a right sidebar of popular stories on *Jalopnik, with a whole top deck of content, and just a little frame for Oppo to live in. So, we’re trending back toward Jalopnik ca. 2011(?) but in a really Charlie Foxtrot way.

Embedded links, delays/lags in notifications, post comment and star counts, and infinite scroll in general just doesn’t work for blogs with comments.

The sidebar also moves to the right side on the recent “big format” (or whatever it’s called) main blog articles. You know, the ones with the massive full-width main image? They only posts those every once in a while, like they’re saving the format for major stories.

But in those posts, the text stays centered instead of shifting to the left like we’re seeing now. And the suggested links are a nice, small, unobtrusive size.

Clearly Kinja switched from Mac to windows. I’m glad I rarely Kinja from my computer. I hate how tiny the post pictures are. The suggested posts are way larger.

They also took away the comment permalinks that included the first few words in the link address. I miss those. I used to be able to hover my cursor over the “somebody recommended your post” and my browser would show me the hyperlink and let me know which post was getting attention, without having to click through.

(BTW, I haven’t seen Infinite Scroll for a few days now. I should probably keep quiet about it though, because if the “feature” has a glitch, I don’t want the Kinja team to find out about it and fix it.)
