Interesting question I saw here. What was the car that brought you home?

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

http://www.thetruthaboutcars.com/2017/04/qotd-vehicle-first-ride-life/

I honestly don’t know about mine. The oldest family car I remember was the Datsun 910, one that looked exactly like this one, so it might be it:

Kinja'd!!!

Anyone know theirs?

If I remember right it was a brown Volvo 240. My dad wins by being born in the back of a ‘57 Bel Air on the way to the hospital though.

I think it must have either been a Blazer or a Trooper; I only vaguely remember the blazer though. My parents got rid of the trooper around the time I was born.

Mid 80s Volvo 340 or 360. First car I can remember is the 1986 Defender my parents kept for another 20 years. Last time I checked it was still on the road.

A burgundy red 1995 Renault 19 Sedan (or Charmade as duurtlang pointed out), just like this one:

It had either a 1.6 with 8 valves or a 1.4, can’t remember which.

I suspect that it was a Mitsubishi Montero, because my parent’s other car was an AW11 MR2 and I feel like they were pretty intent on keeping me alive by that point.

1984 Jeep Cherokee (lighter blue) 4 Door

Kinja'd!!!

It had 4 batteries + (4000$ speaker system from the early 90s), yellowed out lights (aside from headlight), off road bumper, hellas upfront.

It was one of the first in Canada and purchased by my father as he’s 6ft 6, there wasn’t much he fit in and the SUV was a brand new trend.

Haha, sorry.

Yeah your right, I couldn’t remember the exact name anymore, I wasn’t even 3 when dad traded it in on a Megane Classic, so I was thinking of 19 Classic, but it indeed was 19 Charmade. Recently I saw one, but the Charmade is rare indeed, 19 hatchbacks and 19 convertibles seem to outnumber it nowadays.

My first car ride would’ve been in my Mom’s 1972 Chevrolet Malibu. Her’s was a two door in the exact same color combination as the pictured car, but with a 350. It was her first car that she kept for about 10 years. She sold it not long after I was born when the reality of an old 2 door car and a newborn made something more modern and with more doors appeal to her. They traded it in for an 1986 Dodge Lancer with a turbo.

I’m not sure but I think it would have either been a ‘57 Fairlane or a ‘63 Galaxie convertible but that’s if my dad was here when I was born (he was in the Navy on a sub). If he was at sea it would have been my grandparents who drove us home so it would have been a Plymouth of some sort since that’s all my grandfather bought.

My mom’s green ‘72 Datsun B-210, that she had purchased new and loved dearly. A few months later, my dad walked out of the house in the morning, and came right back in and announced to my mom, “Ummmm ... I think we’re gonna need a new car.”

The right side strut towers had collapsed overnight from rust. The right side rocker panel was laying on the ground. Off to the junkyard it went. I was born in ‘81, so the car was only nine years old.

Would’ve been an ‘87 Chevy Nova. Only car my parents bought new. They kept it until around 2007, at around 250,000 miles when it finally had too many small issues that weren’t worth fixing and it got donated to assist starting a highschool shop class that never got off the ground. But it did get one last hurrah of a road trip, out to Portland, OR and the pacific coast, via the Black Hills, Yellowstone, and a bunch of areas in between. My first attempt at learning a clutch.

No worries, but would’ve helped if you stated how old the car was at the time. The 626 of my parents were already 11 years old when I were born, and we even had that for 10 more years. For some reason I always assume that people my age grew up in something from the 80's.

Now I remember, that’s why I thought you are about my age.

My dad is to ‘blame’ for that, buying only Renaults new from the mid 90's to the mid 00's, and only keeping all of them 3 years or less, I already own the Twingo longer than he has owned any of his cars. Indeed a lot of my friends’ parents did drive 80's cars, and often they had them over a long period, always making my friends confused why my dad bought a new car again.
