Eh, at least it doesn’t have a negative effect on performance, like stance does. And if it catches on, automakers might start making white lettered tires again. I’m ok with it. Some people just like making their car look nifty and if it doesn’t negatively impact performance it’s alright. Racing stripes on a minivan? Sure, why not. Decals on your tires? It doesn’t put me at risk like stance does.

Yes, this seems dumb. Harmless though. Want to hear something really stupid? I read a Speedhunters article on some RWB speed-builds in the UAE in which I learned he just drills holes in a fully painted, bonded on carbon roof to put screws in that “hint” at it being carbon. No purpose, just dummy screws. In a finished carbon roof. And he simply “grinds down” brackets and bolts that will create tire clearance issues. That’s world-class fuckery, makes tire lettering seem like nothing.

There are a few RWL tires still on the market, though I think truck versions are more common. I think they look good on vehicles that have some sidewall unlike most modern cars.

Yeah, dude. I used to think they looked sort of cool, never as cool as actual, functional racing cars, but neat. And I’m open to most facets of the car scene. After the “techniques” used have been laid bare though, I’ve lost respect. Unfinished body cut edges, hardware store silicone instead of weatherstrip, grinding stuff in bad places... and it’s called art. I’ll bet it makes a shitload of money though, I’ll give him that. Just search for RWB on Speedhunters and read the two pieces on the UAE builds. No bueno.

I did this on my Dunlops. Spent maybe 3-4 hours getting it perfect on both sides, using an expensive kit intended for whitewalls with primer first, then a few coats of yellow on top. They looked great, until the first ride was over, then they looked brown. Then, after carefully blotting with a towel and taking a hose to it, half the paint blew off.
If I was to do it again, I might just use a pen, do one coat, and treat it as a sacrificial, one time use thing.
