I had several larger logs stored in my garage, waiting for them to dry a little. Set up my splitting log, and went to work. It is very satisfying swinging a maul and smashing a log into nice, neat pieces of firewood. Now I have plenty of split wood for my Friday night fires this year. :)

So I’m not the only one that finds manually splitting wood to be satisfying. It is a nice workout, plus there is quite a bit of strategizing involved to get nice clean splits. I kind of think of it as similar to golfing - see how few strokes I can make to get the logs down to size.

Nope. One where the PTO shaft runs a hydraulic pump, then it runs like a gas powered splitter where the engine powers the pump.

I suck at chopping wood. Of course I have never had much practice and haven’t done big logs but my technique is to just lightly bang the axe into the end of the wood and then slam the whole thing down. kinda works. It has always looked like fun to chop wood like the guy in the gif.

Can confirm, thoroughly therapeutic. Good exercise too.
I’ve actually just finished making a screw-type log splitter for our tractor which should speed things up as we’ve got a lot to go through. Not too tricky actually :)
