i miss my civic. it was a 13ish year project and it too started out dull. but by the end it was a hoot to drive even in my daily commute, it looked how i wanted and I often got waves from other drivers, it had all the toys and tweaks i wanted, and it made a glorious sound.

the impreza is none of those things. It is stock which is a great place to start, and my project is in the parts buying phase. Its a pleasant drive. But theres is nothing of interest to say about it, and nothing that even shows I am a car enthusiast.

I’m glad for my new project, but eager to be at the decade later stage where its all tweaked how I want it.

anyhoo, mini rant over.

someone elses pretty bugeye for your time

Same thing for modified Jukes and/or NISMO’s. It’s more of niche for Jukes that are modified, but they are out there.

Yup. My 350Z has been a thousand times more fun and less of a pain in the ass than my old Celica was. But the celica was a limited production rally homologated special. The Z will never ever be that cool.

you just gotta keep waving. after a while people start to wave back. my tired old daily gets people walking up to me at the pumps, and saying hello to me all the time. and its just a dusty worn down looking old truck, with some loud exhaust. and even though the people i meet, are in regular plain looking cars, they are enthusiasts too.

ive gotten to meet some downright interesting people at gas stations and in parking lots......

just gotta keep talking/meeting people. after a while, when your car gets closer to being where you want it, people will start looking for you........

I’m not the flashy type of person, which is why the past all of my mods have been not visible ones. Other than mud flaps and gold wheels (stock 2.5rs so not that far off stock) my car is stock as fuck. Underneath though, all the bushings yo! Such a world of difference in the daily drive

That’s kinda where I’m at with my Accord; it’s a fine car, it’s comfortable and has all the power I could need/want. Even when I had my manual $500 Saturn, I felt way more connected to the road, I’d done a lot of work on it myself and knew what was happening on it. Plus, I felt like I was “part of the club” of manual drivers, I’d downshift before a stoplight and a mustang next to me would give me a rev. Crappy as the car may have been, I still found myself driving it just because.

Just keep your eyes on the light at the end of the tunnel. A finished Impreza project is gonna kick way more ass than a finished Civic project.

Now, because you are modifying an Impreza, I am obligated to say:

Seriously though, throwing an EJ20 crank into an EJ25 can help fix so many of that engine platform’s inherent weaknesses. With a nearly square bore-to-stroke ratio and a practically perfect rod-to-stroke ratio the 2.35 de-stroker runs more like a four-cylinder Porsche engine than anything Subaru ever made as an OEM product.

Also, I think looking outwardly “special” is over-rated in tuner cars. Project Hoondy has absorbed over $8000 worth of after-market upgrades and yet still looks almost completely stock. Despite this, fellow car enthusiasts never fail to appreciate the car. That’s probably helped by the fact that, while it doesn’t look very different from stock, it sounds like this:

The best tuner cars look clean and sound mean. Good luck and happy tuning!

For a bugeye a JDM V7 207 is the best option, you can pick them up for ~3k and they 100% drop in and connect to the factory harness. You run the opensource Carberry ROM and get anti-lag and flex fuel!

For another 3k you can get the sti trans too, which also bolts right in.

Build a bad ass, reliable, reasonably priced little JDM track monster.
