And I do mean NOW! These were running in the $25,000 area with low miles just a year or two ago and I think everyone is realizing that everything about this car screams future classic. I’m not going to hype up all the reasons and market conditions that are making me call this a classic, I don’t want this post to get too visible. Just know that I do see these going over $35,000 regardless of mileage by year end. In other news, remember when ALL Lotus Elises were $35,000? Depreciation restarted a while back and they are about to start dipping under $20,000.

Basically the Lotus Elise and Honda S2000 CR have swapped used market placement.

Oh I want an Elise. Very very much. Time to buy some lottery tickets.

Not sure where you are looking but the average sorted Elise is still a $27-30K game all day long. Having driven both cars, the lotus is an animal while the S2000 is a great car you can keep long term. Can’t do that interior in the Elise for the price

Well that game is going to be $23,000 to $27,000 all day in the next couple years. That means some will keep the $35,000 listings but others will be leaving owner’s hands for $19,000.

Oof. I dunno man. That body kit is sooooo so bad, especially around the front end.

Personally, I think the AP1 will be more collectible. Yes, they had more reliability problems and silly, tiny wheels. However, the whole point of that car is redline. 9K’s of it specifically. Now, i’m sure the AP2 is easier to drive and better (yes straight up better.) But i’d still much rather have the extra revs than slightly less shitty torque numbers. A 2007 350Z almost revs to 8K (7.5 to be exact.) 8K is cool, but its just not party trick cool like 9K is.

Let’s hope so. Would be awesome to have a lotus for a stint

Yeah, the Elise is definitely a toy. 2nd (or 3rd) car. But I love it and want it.

New Elise comes back to the States soon. Will be interesting to see what that does for the price of used ones.

After having borrowed one for an extended weekend in the canyons I fell hard on the Lotus itch. Canyon or track runs are where this car shines, not entirely sold on how slow it would feel in more frequent use nor that interior.

My verdict was its not a rational choice to replace the M coupe.

I’ve only had a short test drive in a Lotus, but it was very revealing. For someone who loves the act of driving, it’s fantastic.

For me, it really came down to this: I doubt if my wife would ever drive it. She can drive a standard, but the Elise was challenging to drive even for me, and I’ve driven a manual almost exclusively for 23 years. The clutch & throttle, no assist steering - all things that improve the feel and the experience, but also the effort.

I’d like any purely fun car that I buy to be one that she could enjoy at times as well, or at the very least, be willing to drive from time to time if I need her to.

It’s a rush and will beat you up both mentally and physically. My wife enjoyed driving (yes she drove!) so much we ended reinstating our search and purchasing the “more rational” RF Miata.

I have seen the promised land. If it didn’t feel like a financial mistake and more impractical toy than my 07' Z4 I would part with the BMW and find a nice silver/blue/orange Elise.

Nice! Awesome that she liked it, and I love that you guys picked up an RF. My test drive in the ND was also very enjoyable.

I honestly don’t think it would be a financial mistake considering the way they keep their value, but impractical is right. I was trying to determine if I’d actually drive it to work 2 or 3 days a week.
