Why not? GM has been badge engineering cars for ages. We got Chevy branded Daewoos in Europe (and the Chevy Alero), the US got Buick and Cadillac branded Opels, Korea gets Daewoo branded Chevies. It’s more logical to offer a car with a popular badge than with an unpopular one.

Not anymore it isn’t. The Daewoo brand was killed off in favor of Alpheon in 2010, and Alpheon itself was dropped a couple years ago in favor of Chevrolet, leaving GM Korea without any “domestic” nameplate.

I had a similar epiphany one summer in about 1985 when I worked at a Chevy dealership. We had a few Spectrums that we gave out as loaners, and I had to get a new hubcap for one of them. It came in an Isuzu box. And our rental Novas were really Toyotas.

Back when i lived in china (11 years ago) you could still buy a brand new MKII Jetta, complete with facelift. I always thought that would be a cool front end swap for all them MKII GTi bros, but i’ve still never seen one back stateside.

Nothing new for Holden. Just now there are more interesting badging ideas for when I have a retired Caprice cruiser. Or a Left Hand Ute converted Ute.
