Lol break into my car and then roll the window down because you can’t get out again and have to use the outside latch. Master thieving skill, that. Though you’re definitely going to be disappointed when those checks you stole return as ‘account closed’. Have fun trying to cash those years-old check stubs, asshole.

Fucking idiots. Had my car(s) broken into 3x living in Chicago for 7 years. Each window was ~$250 or so to replace, and between the 3 thefts, they got about $8 or so in spare change.

the only time my car was broken into (working on a faulty door handle, easily able to get in over night) they also only stole like $0.75 lol

I don’t think I ever shared it with you guys, but someone got into my car a few months ago. It was unlocked (I live out in the boonies), so there was no damage, but they took my registration and proof of insurance from the glovebox. They also left the door slightly open, presumably to avoid waking anybody.

Oh yeah - and the ENTIRE $8 was on the 1st of the 3 thefts, BTW. I learned my lessons better than the thieves did.

Hmm, that’s odd - can they steal your identity or re-title your car in their name that way somehow? That would freak me out more than taking the crap laying around the inside of my car...

I asked my insurance company if they would be able to mess with my policy or anything, but they assured me that that information is useless to anybody but me.

I was told a similar thing by the Secretary of State (our version of a “DMV”) regarding the registration.

I still don’t like that they have my name and address, though.

Someone took some DVD player with screens from our car around Halloween a few years ago. Too bad they were already broken.

Well, that’s good to know - I’m guessing the thieves thought they could do something with it, or more likely, they’re tweakers with no sense at all.

Apparently they went up & down the road, hitting all the driveways for unlocked cars. Weird.

The police didn’t seem too concerned about it, nor did they seem to have any expectations of ever finding the thieves. Not much to go on, really.

Could be teenaged pranksters. Kids came into our neighborhood and grabbed the garage clickers from open cars. Then, they opened garages and took useless stuff.

Yeah, that’s one of the possibilities suggested by the cops. It’s too bad my dashcam wasn’t running at the time. If I had gotten a glimpse of what they were driving, we could have had another “ID this car” post.

I’ve never had a car broken into, but I’ve had some people steal a cash box from me before to buy drugs. Joke’s on them, I was like what, a tween at the time? They made off with two 2 dollar bills (modern ones, so worthless), a bunch of marbles, and some unused Apple stickers.

Probably more money in selling the worthless account numbers online to an unsuspecting person.

Unfortunately, intelligence and good judgment are not strong suits of the average thief.

This is why I tell everyone that stupid gate we have on the front that keeps costing money to fix is worthless. Anyone can just jump over and mess with the cars. They all look at me like I’m nuts. They are convinced it makes us safer, and then they lea e their doors unlocked, even though we live in the city

I grew up farther away from the city where we too could not worry about locking doors.

Yeah, putting my documents in my wallet was an easy transition to make, but leaving the car unlocked at home was a hard habit to break.

Even now, when I visit my parents, I suspend my usual instinct to lock. I suspect that will change if I ever get broken into there.

I’ve never had a car broken into, but my brother was dumb enough to leave his ‘94 Caprice wagon unlocked so somebody stole his radio. Admittedly I thought the thieves were as courteous as possible: they didn’t rip the dash apart, they removed all the fasteners and didn’t cut any wires, left all the parts stacked neatly on the passenger seat.

To this day I’m convinced it was my dad that did it to teach my brother a lesson, since that’s how he would have done it.

About 8 years ago I had a roommate whose car was burgled. They stole the cable to her Garmin, a stack of promotional stickers from the concert venue where I worked at the time, and the owner’s manual. They didn’t take the $20 bill from the console sitting underneath the stickers. It was still lying there. They broke a window for some worthless bullshit.
