Even if you haven’t seen it. It’s that red C2 for me.

Kinja'd!!!

I’ve been super sick for the past week, getting crushed at work, and we thought we were going to get to adopt a new puppy that fell through. So my wife surprised me with a movie date last night, which was really nice of her because she fucking hates the FnF series. Ironically my friends are going to see it tomorrow, so now I have to go again. I’m not a huge fan of any of the later FnF movies, but I will watch anything with cars once. I guess twice.

So you didn’t buy the 2002?

He sold it before I could look at it! He said he had two people knock and ask him about it the day he pulled it out of the garage. The second guy went to the bank and came back with $5500! Bummed about that as well lol.

I did however get some great info about a local 2002 guru. I’m still going to go and meet him, see what he knows, if he knows of/has any available cars.

Yea, I didn’t get my hopes up though. He was tough to get a hold of, and I knew the price was good. In the back of my mind I thought “first person who looks will buy, so that had better be me.”

Quick: how do you think e46 m3 maintenance costs would compare to an e92 335i?

I’m going to say the E46 will be slightly cheaper. My E90 M3 was terribly expensive and a lot of that was the fancy pants electronics/battery. To give you an idea (for the E46) if you keep up with scheduled maintenance and drive it daily. Expect to spend 2k per year unless you’re turning the wrench.

I’ve not heard fantastic things about those 335 engines, but I have no real world experience with them.

Also an E46 M3 won’t lose much if any value at this point, a 335 will.

$2k seems kinda high per year. I’ve had my 335i for almost 20k now (it’s about to hit 80k) and it hasn’t required too much, but it was a well kept example.

There’s a 2003 m3 coupe 6mt for 12.9, with 105k on it. I can probably get an easy $15k for my 335i.

I mean most owners won’t spend that kind of money per year. However I do every mfg recommend service as frequently as they recommend. I have my inde mech do the VANOS preventative maintenance every 30k etc...I’ve replaced any interior panel that has become scratched, discolored, or damaged. I have just under $18k in receipts over 10 years and 66k miles. In addition to the parts mentioned above there are maintenance/wear items (most of the cost), ZCP wheels, an expensive short shifter, clear bra, and the only two actual failures over the life of the car. An ignition coil to the tune of $125, and the most expensive of the 3 throttle position actuators (just recently) to the tune of $1400. There were years that all that I did was inspect it. So it’s more like $1800/year, if you’re nuts about it.

if it’s been well kept. 100k miles is a great milestone. I’d much rather buy one with 100k on the clock than one with 60k. I spent a lot of money in between 60-85k

I’ve done my own work on my ‘02 and it’s come to about 1k a year. I haven’t been as detailed as Tripper, but still kept up on the major items. It kind of depends on where all the wearables line up in mileage. If you have to do brakes, tires, and an inspection II in the same year it’ll be a pricy year. If they get spread out like I had with mine, it’ll be pretty even and reasonable each year.

I bought mine with about 110k miles on it with the mindset of “I’m buying this because I want to drive it.” It’s helped me accept a few scratches hear and there, some wheel peeling, and a few interior imperfections. I still take very good care of it but as long as it’s driving well, I’m happy and won’t stress about the little things.

If you like the red C2, it is an actual real life rallycross car by a guy named Brian Hobaug. Here is a feature on it from speedhunters with plenty of info

Thanks! Post some pics if you have any. I think I’d be the same, it’s really just gonna be a fun DD for me, so cosmetically it doesn’t have to be perfect.

Really well put, and that is bound to happen! Even if you DIY the brakes are silly expensive.
