They knew the Discovey’s electrics would go wrong constantly so they made the under dash panel quick-release.

And of course it’s coin operated because money pit.

It’s like a British grocery store where you insert your pound coin in the trolley (cart) and don’t get it back until you return it. Only in this case, the coins should just disappear into the engine compartment.

Oddly enough all the grocery store carts in Spain had the coins left in them.

Pay it forward. At least until the bums raid the parking lot for booze money.

Certain places in NJ do this with quarters. I feel like having to put a quarter in would not change theft rates too substantially, but stores next to it do not have the coin-locking .So they are relatively more secure.

Yeah, I’ve always wondered that about Aldi, which is the only place in the US I’ve ever seen with this policy, and I agree a quarter isn’t always worth a long walk back to the store. I could only imagine the Germans sitting around the table discussing the American expansion: “Wait, you mean one QUARTER of ONE dollar ist zee largest coin in America? What is this, the time of Charlemagne?”

Yep, I believe most of the world does it. I was just joking about Aldi, which is the only US store I’ve ever seen with this policy (German...)

Exactly. Ikea and Aldi expand in the US and the next thing you now we have the Sacajawea coin. Of course, we love and respect it bringing it to a broader adoption than the metric system even got to enjoy, but that’s not saying much. Really it just deters me from breaking the $5 I have at the vending machine.

I blame the Euro.

It’s now wonder European men carry purses, every time I’m there, my pants are falling down from the weight of all the coinage. /s

It’s also why they wear tight pants and despise cargo shorts. They don’t want their pants falling and covering their socks and sandals.

Aldi does the same thing in the US. My wife likes shopping there but I never have a damn quarter on me.

Yup, I was just posting that in the same thread. Er, alternate thread. Somewhere in the Kinjaverse...who knows? Really annoying for people who rarely carry cash. The only time I have coins is when I’m on my way to the Coinstar.

Same here, we have a change bin and deposit it from time to time. My credit union counts coins for free.

It’s not about theft it’s about them being reutrned where they belong instead of leaving them randomly in the parking lot.

Maybe, but that also involves theft in this great state.
