...you’re driving down the highway, lost in your own thoughts, and you look in the rear view and see a blacked out Crown Vic plain wrapper closing on your six and you realize you’re doing 8 over the limit.
Fortunately, he had other business to attend to. And I set the cruise control.

Only 8 over? In NJ you’d be more worried about the cars approaching you at 15 mph over that than a cruiser.

You never know. At the time, I was all alone in front of a gaggle of cars. It’s also nearing the end of the month.

Fellow Central-Texan here... is it just me, or are they all over the place this past week? I’ve seen at least three black-and-white Explorers on various parts of 71 every day, it seems.

Maybe increased patrols for Moto GP. I was coming up MoPac from a gig in south Austin.

I haven’t seen a Crown Vic cruiser in well over a year, public or undercover.

They still have plenty of them here in Austin, but they are phasing them out in favor of the Taurus and Bronco.

I drove a Vette from Houston to Austin last year and noticed a huge police presence on drive, I thought it was strange because the route was mostly, what I thought were, country roads.
I was very lucky as I blazed by the first one going atleast 35 over. He was parked on the side of the road in a Crown Vic.
Needless to say, I smartened up after that (mostly).

Were you on 290? I have made that drive more than a few times, and not seen many cops at all. Just the occasional local yokel and maybe a DPS trooper.

I honestly don’t remember, as I was just visiting. I remember we stopped in Esslinger for BBQ, though. So what ever route puts Esslinger on the way from Houston to Austin.

That’s on Hwy 71. So you left Houston on I-10, then hit 71 to get to austin.
