Pluses and minuses on the shifter thingy? Must be a manual.

There weren’t any pictures in the AutoTrader ad, just “coming soon”.

Yep. I see this on autotrader a lot.

Seems to be a thing with BMW listings and misrepresenting what type of transmission is equipped in the car.

This is a pet peeve of mine with Autotrader ads in general; it seems worse there than on other sites, but maybe it’s my imagination.

Tiptronic or whatever is NOT THE SAME as a manual. To me, they might as well get the number of doors wrong. Especially as they become more and more rare, it’s all the more important to get it RIGHT because someone looking for a manual is really going to want that specifically.

Manual shift = manual transmission, right? You can choose your own gears, WTF does it matter if there’s a clutch pedal?

- probably the actual thought process of the person who checked that box in the listing

Well they did get it right on their own website. And by right I mean they correctly listed the car for having the wrong transmission...

The crowd that doesn’t like poop jokes brought down the whole show. I still miss his made-up sex moves. “Dirt mall is also the name of a move I like to do with my LIFE. PARTNER! It involves a lego village, a stopwatch and two whole boxes of CRACKLIN OAT BRAN!!!!”

I’ve been looking at M3s/M4s, don’t even get me started. I think 9/10 of them are listed as Manual when in reality only 1/10 really is.

There’s no such thing as an AWD + MT F-series BMW, at least not in North America. They all have the ZF 8-speed, which is a lovely automatic. But I wanted a stick and AWD, so that and the steering are the main reasons I bought my E92 335xi.

The defect in that thought process, so far as any “automanual” transmission I’ve ever driven, is that the driver DOESN’T choose their own gears. They merely submit a polite request to the transmission to consider selecting the indicated gear at some point in the future.

They just got rid of it after the LCI 2017. This one is currently on sale, looks like a demo:

Weird, last summer when I was shopping I could’ve sworn I played with the configurators and couldn’t find anything xDrive + MT. I’m still happy I went the way I did because if I went new I would’ve had to lease and instead I bought used and modified the hell out of it.

I’m pretty sure last year when I played with the configurators, manual on the 3 and 4 series was actually only available on the 340 and 440 i and xi, only now they removed it. Strange thing is for the 440xi configurator now, Automatic is listed twice.

Wait what? They discontinued the 335i/340i x-drive 6MT? They sure had it on their website lasr year. It was only the N20 X-drive that didn’t get a Erick.

The GC has never been offered with a stick in the US though as far as I’m aware.

Nope, neither the 3-series nor 4-series can be configured with a manual at all now, in Canada. As for the manual Gran Coupe, it was briefly available. Can’t find the thread but I saw one over at Bimmerpost.

Ahhh yes, in Canada... this is why national regulations are so stupid. Canada uses FMVSS, what’s so different that they can’t sell there what they sell in the US? That the owners manual has to be in French? (Overly simplified rant).

Precisely. As far as I can tell, this is the case until you’re looking at cars they drive on Top Gear and the like. Not real cars. But you know, it’s possible.

One of the fastest-responding manu-matic thingamabobs I’ve ever driven was an late ‘90s Hyundai Santa Fe. I kid you not, it belonged to my roomate’s girlfriend in college, and it shifted faster than any I have driven before or since. Riddle me that...
