Drove it to the shop so they can wire the windshield wipers and horn. Then inspection time! This thing is an absolute ANIMAL to drive. Manual steering, 4" sidepipes and beefy 11.0:1 compression. Sends Muranos scurrying for their lives. No hood, no registration, no interior just a V8 and a 4-speed with a chrome shift knob. Perfect commuter car.

So...is the no-hood thing a permanent Roadkill addition, or temporary? :P

Needs Vortec Aluminum heads. That will really wake this motor up.

I bent the hinges trying to install the hood myself with no help. I’ll eventually fix the hinges and re-mount the hood but I really like it without.

This car is already the fastest thing I’ve ever owned by a massive margin. I’m not looking for extra power right now. It already has trouble hooking up in 1st and second. Tires are only 225 wide.

(Maybe stupid) Technical question: What’s the big deal with the aluminum heads? Is it the fact that the Vortec heads flow well and they just happen to be lighter? Or is there actually something about the actual metal that makes them work better?

They actually love it. Neighbours come over now and then to shoot the shit in the garage and they really like the car. It’s loud but I don’t floor it around my street or anything.

I love this stupid, stupid car. My Town Car with mud terrains doesn’t come close.

It’s mostly heat dissipation and weight (about 50lbs). Aluminum cools faster so they are less prone to pre-detonation. The main advantage here, and no offense Clayton, compared to even a cast iron junk yard vortec small block chevy head, any other factory head is a boat anchor.

For instance the “double hump” fuelie small block head which was considered to be the “best” until the mid 90's vortech came around flows 202 CFM on the intake and 141 on the exhaust with 2.02 inch intake valves and 1.60 exhaust valves at .500 lift. At the same .500 lift a set of factory vortec heads flow 239 on the intake and 160 cfm on the exhaust with only 1.94 intake and 1.5 exhaust valves. They have a better combustion chamber which needs less advance to make peak power. And if you port and polish and put bigger valves in them you can hit 255 cfm and 185 cfm.

The main issue with Vortec heads is that to run a cam bigger than .450 lift you either need some trick valve springs or to machine the spring seats.

Essentially, if you build a small block chevy and you don’t use vortec heads which are dirt cheap (even with the machining needed to run a bigger cam), you’re leaving power on the table.

Poor Clayton, haha! Hopefully they aren’t bent enough you can’t just bend them back.

Doesn’t this mean it’s not very useful in a freak rainstorm? :P

Funny thing, drove it in the rain today. The water hitting the fan throws it at the hot engine which turns it to steam, fogging my windshield. That was a new one.

I had the same experience with the open pipes on my old ‘74 Apollo. My neighbors also loved it, but I never got on it around neighborhoods.
