In the US, that escort is 16 blacked out identical tactical SUVs, some with armed officers (in full tactical gear) hanging out the windows with M16's. If you’re in the crosswalk, you’re dead.

I’m only half joking. I’ve seen that scene more times than I can count in San Francisco. They also send regular officers ahead to close intersections in advance along multiple paths so you don’t know which way the motorcade is going.
