Spent some time working on the idle mix of my Holley carb today, seems a bit better, but the transition from idle to throttle still isn’t right, unless you leave hard, the car wants to and still does stall. Any ideas Holley gurus?

Did you tune the mix with a vacuum gauge? What pump cam and squirters are on it? And check the pump arm to make sure it’s shooting properly.

you are going to want to check and see if your accelerator pump is doing anything,(might be clogged somewhere between the squirter and pump) or see if it is just out of adjustment.

its gonna be that square thing under the float bowls with the pivot arm attached. see what kind of shape its in, and if the spring in it is still good.......

Don’t know much about Holleys specifically, is the accelerator pump actuation adjustable or not providing enrichment (or even over-fueling) on light throttle?

Squirter is still squirting. But I’m not sure what exactly the proper adjustment is

Make sure there’s no slop in the accelerator pump linkage.

How far open are the throttle blades at idle? Is it possible you’re exposing some of the transition slots?

in that picture that you have posted up, its that red spring. you can adjust that bolt in, or out. you just take out any slop/play, so that ANY movement of the throttle makes the squirter pump.

and also make sure that its a putting out a good solid squirt.......

oh yeah, almost forgot, make sure that all of your vacuum ports are plugged in good, or plugged up.

check the timing too............

According to the engine builder that worked with a friend of mine when he built his,

“Carbs are voodoo magic. You can buy 10 of the same model and they’ll work 11 different ways.”

So yeah, no help, just thought I’d share.

is the transition from idle to throttle the only issue your having? it the motor idling perfectly fine? I’m on a train of though it could related to the power valve. seems like everytime I mess with a Holley the answer is always a bad power valve.

check the timing too............

I was thinking of this as well. Not sure if the timing was OK before or not, or if maybe the vacuum advance hose got moved from a manifold to a timed port.

I just put a new power valve in it last summer when i rebuilt it. So I doubt that’s the case. I’m guessing squirter adjustment.

yes,

ive also gotten to see carbs that somehow didnt get snugged down all the way. run great/okay at idle, but then find a whole lot more air when you gas on it......

If it’s pooped through the carb since you put it in then it’s probably ruined again.
